E8 G - Practise a Year-8 dialogue with AI

Mini-Beschreibung: Nutze KI für einen kurzen Übungsdialog auf Englisch. Fordere ausdrücklich easy Year-8 English, familiar vocabulary and short turns. Gib keine persönlichen Daten ein. Zielgruppe: Klasse 8, G-Niveau, Englisch als erste Fremdsprache in Baden-Württemberg.

Media start: Look at the icon. What can an AI chat help you practise? Say one idea in English.

I can ...

  1. Speaking: I can have a short dialogue with an AI and give my opinion with a reason.
  2. Listening: I can understand the main idea of a clear, moderate dialogue with few speakers.
  3. Reading: I can understand short connected messages and useful feedback.
  4. Writing: I can write a short dialogue, e-mail, report or opinion text with a clear structure.
  5. AI literacy: I can use AI safely, check its language and improve my own text instead of replacing it.

Before you start

You already know useful phrases such as I think ..., because ..., What do you think?, Could you repeat that? and I don't understand yet.

Safety rule: Use a fictional profile. Do not enter your real name, address, school, phone number, passwords, private photos or private social-media data. Recordings are voluntary and private. Do not upload recordings unless your teacher has clearly asked you to and the school rules allow it.

Quick task: Think of one safe fictional role: a student who likes basketball, films, music, gaming, animals or another familiar topic.

English first: your AI prompt

Copy and adapt this prompt:

Please practise a short dialogue with me. Use easy Year-8 English, familiar vocabulary and short turns. Ask only one question at a time. Use a familiar topic. Give me a short hint if I need help. Correct only important mistakes after my answer. Explain in German only if I ask for help. Do not ask for personal data.

Good order: English first → context → try → ask → hint → German help if needed.

Do not ask for a full German translation. Try English first.

Listening and viewing 1: short turns

First viewing: Watch without a transcript. Listen for greetings, questions and short answers.

After viewing:

  1. Main idea: What is the situation?
  2. Useful turn: Say one short phrase you understood.
  3. Strategy: Watch again and check your first idea.

Try the dialogue

Context: You and the AI are fictional Year-8 students planning an afternoon activity.

AI: Hi! What would you like to do after school?

You: I would like to play basketball because it is fun.

AI: Sounds good. Where could we play?

Continue for 6–8 short turns. Keep your answers connected. Give at least one opinion and one reason.

Ask for help

Use short help questions before switching to German:

  1. What does ... mean?
  2. Can you say that more simply?
  3. Can you give me a hint?
  4. Can you repeat the question?
  5. Can you give me two words I could use?

German help if needed: Ask for one short explanation, then return to English.

Context vocabulary

English Simple meaning Use it
plan decide what to do Let's plan Saturday.
suggest give an idea I suggest the park.
agree have the same opinion I agree because ...
prefer like one thing more I prefer cycling.
maybe perhaps Maybe we can meet at three.
reason why you think something My reason is ...
feedback advice about your work Can you give me feedback?

Pronunciation: clear is the goal

You do not need to sound like a native speaker. The goal is to be understandable.

  1. Stress important words: I PREFER the PARK because it is QUIET.
  2. Speak in short thought groups.
  3. Repeat a sentence once if it was unclear.
  4. Ask: Could you understand me?

Recordings are optional. Keep them private unless your teacher has given a clear safe task.

Listening and viewing 2: ask for feedback

First listen for the feedback phrases. Then watch again and note one useful sentence.

Use it: After your AI dialogue, ask: Please give me two short points of feedback: one thing that was clear and one thing I can improve. Use easy English.

Check the feedback. AI feedback can be wrong.

Reading: check an AI answer

Read this fictional AI feedback:

Your dialogue is clear. You gave a reason. One sentence is too long. Try: “I prefer the park because it is quiet.”

Ask yourself:

  1. Is the feedback about my actual text?
  2. Is the example correct?
  3. Does it help me communicate more clearly?
  4. Can I explain the change myself?

If not, ask the AI to explain or check with a dictionary, textbook, teacher or classmate.

Functional grammar for G level

Grammar supports communication. Do not force difficult forms into your own dialogue.

Reported speech without backshift – useful: Mia says that the film is funny. Sam says that he prefers the park.

Past perfect – recognise it: They had planned the trip before the rain started.

Passive – recognise it: The tickets were booked online.

For G level, past perfect and passive are mainly receptive here. You need to understand their meaning, not produce them in every task.

Optional M/E extension: Use passive forms productively and practise reported speech with backshift, questions and commands. Past perfect progressive is only an E-level receptive extension.

Listening and viewing 3: notice grammar in context

Watch for two things: people report what others said, and some earlier past events are shown with the past perfect.

G task: Do not copy every grammar form. Find the main situation and explain in simple English why the speakers give different versions of the story.

Speaking: AI role-play

Choose one fictional situation:

  1. Two students choose a film.
  2. Two students plan a class break activity.
  3. A student asks for help with homework organisation.
  4. Two friends choose a weekend activity.
  5. A student gives a simple opinion about a game, book or hobby.

Use 8–10 short turns. Include:

  1. one question,
  2. one opinion,
  3. one reason,
  4. one follow-up question,
  5. one polite reaction.

Writing: turn speaking into text

After the dialogue, write 80–120 words as one of these:

  1. a short e-mail,
  2. a short report,
  3. an opinion text,
  4. a short fictional job-style message.

Use a simple structure: opening → main point → reason/example → ending.

AI may help you check, but it should not replace your own text. Ask for one improvement at a time.

Optional mediation

A fictional exchange student does not understand this German instruction:

„Benutze keine persönlichen Daten und antworte in kurzen englischen Sätzen.“

Explain the message in simple English without translating every word.

Error analysis

Look at three typical problems:

1. I am agree. → I agree.

2. I prefer go to the park. → I prefer going to the park. / I prefer to go to the park.

3. He say that the film is good. → He says that the film is good.

Choose one error. Explain the correction in one simple sentence.

Transfer

Change the situation. Keep the same communication strategy:

opinion → reason → question → reaction

Example: I think the school trip sounds good because we can learn outside. What do you think?

Can-do check

I can ... Yes Not yet

Follow-up course

Next step: practise a longer dialogue with two viewpoints, clearer follow-up questions and a short written reflection. Keep the same safety rules and continue to check AI language and feedback.
