E5 E - My perfect school day

Mini-Beschreibung: Describe a fictional school day in simple connected sentences. Use time phrases and frequency words such as always, usually, often, sometimes and never.

Level: English as a first foreign language, Klasse 5, E-Niveau, Baden-Württemberg.

Einleitung

Look – listen – say. What can you see? What can you hear? Say one short sentence.

Say it: Good morning! My school day starts now.

Hilfe: Du musst nicht jedes Wort verstehen. Achte zuerst auf Bild, Uhrzeit und bekannte Wörter.

Lernziele

After this aiMOOC, you can:

  1. talk about a school day in short connected sentences.
  2. use times with at: at eight o'clock, at half past twelve.
  3. use frequency words: always, usually, often, sometimes, never.
  4. give a short spoken or written mini-presentation about your perfect school day.

Quick check: What do you know?

Read the words: school – lesson – break – lunch – home – morning – afternoon.

Say three words you know. Then answer:

What time does your school start?

Use the chunk: My school starts at ...

Mini-feedback: Did you use at before the time? If not, try again.

Words and chunks

English Simple help Use it
lesson Unterrichtsstunde We have an English lesson.
break Pause We have a break.
lunch Mittagessen I have lunch at school.
favourite Lieblings- Art is my favourite subject.
usually meistens I usually go by bus.
sometimes manchmal I sometimes play outside.
never nie I never skip lunch.

Listen and repeat:

Tip: Listen again. Then say the word. Clear speech is more important than sounding exactly like one speaker.

See and hear a school day

Morning chunk: I usually have breakfast at seven o'clock.

Time chunk: My first lesson starts at eight o'clock.

Listen again if you want. Then say two times aloud: It's eight o'clock. It's twelve o'clock.

Mia's perfect school day

Mia is a fictional pupil. Her day is only an example.

My perfect school day starts at eight o'clock. I usually walk to school with my friend Sam. Our first lesson is English, and we often play a short word game. At half past ten, we have a break and I sometimes play outside. At quarter past twelve, I have lunch with my friends. In the afternoon, we have art because it is my favourite subject. School finishes at quarter past three, and I always go home happy.

Read again. Find:

  1. one time with at,
  2. two frequency words,
  3. one school subject.

Hilfe auf Abruf: usually = meistens, often = oft, sometimes = manchmal, always = immer.

Listen, pause, repeat

Use the example text like a speaking track:

  1. Read one sentence slowly.
  2. Pause.
  3. Say the sentence without looking.
  4. Listen to a model word above when you need it.
  5. Read the next sentence.
  6. At the end, say two sentences together.

Try twice. The second try should be a little smoother, not necessarily faster.

School moments

Chunk: I sometimes go to school by bus.

Chunk: I have lunch at quarter past twelve.

Chunk: We often play outside at break time.

Grammar in action

You need only two small patterns.

Pattern Example
at + time We start at eight o'clock.
frequency word + main verb I usually walk to school.
be + frequency word Art is always fun.

Use, do not only name the rule.

Complete and say:

  1. I usually ... at ...
  2. We often ... at school.
  3. I sometimes ... after lunch.
  4. My favourite lesson is ... because ...

A short dialogue

A: What time does your perfect school day start?

B: It starts at nine o'clock.

A: What do you usually do first?

B: I usually have English first.

A: What do you do at break time?

B: I often talk to my friends.

Your turn: Change the times, subjects and activities. Keep the dialogue simple and natural.

Frequency words in context

Watch only as much as you need. Listen for always, usually, often, sometimes, never. Then make one sentence about your school day.

Check: Put the frequency word before a normal main verb: I often play. With be, put it after be: English is usually fun.

Mini-Wiederholung

Say these three lines without reading if you can:

My school starts at ...

I usually ... at school.

I sometimes ... at break time.

Now change one detail and say the three lines again. This is the learning loop: see → hear → understand → repeat → use → feedback → use again.

Feedback-Hilfe

Check your own sentence:

  1. Is there a subject: I / we / my school?
  2. Is there a verb: start / have / play / go?
  3. Is at before a clock time?
  4. Is the frequency word in the right place?
  5. Can another person understand you?

If one point is missing, fix only that point and say the sentence again.

I-can-Check
