E9 G - Practise an exam-style conversation with AI
E9 G - Practise an exam-style conversation with AI

Mini-Beschreibung: Practise short exam-style conversations, presentation questions and mediation prompts with AI. Ask for E9-G-level language and feedback after the task. The goal is clear communication, not perfect English.
Target: English as a first foreign language, Year 9, G level, Baden-Württemberg.
Learning path: English first → understand → respond → ask → hint → improve → use again.
Privacy first: Use fictional names, profiles and application data. Do not enter your real address, phone number, school details, private social-media data or passwords. Recordings are optional and private. Do not upload them without clear permission. Use only a school-approved AI tool if your class allows it.
Einleitung
You can use AI as a practice partner. It can play an examiner, ask short questions and give feedback. You stay in control: keep your own first version, check AI facts and feedback, and decide what you want to improve.
Important: Ask the AI to wait until the task is finished before giving feedback. Communication comes first. A clear accent is enough; you do not need to sound like a native speaker.

I-can-Ziele
- I can understand short exam questions in clear English.
- I can respond with short connected answers and reasons.
- I can ask for repetition or clarification.
- I can give a short presentation and answer follow-up questions.
- I can mediate key information from German into simple English.
- I can improve my answer after feedback and try it again.
Vorwissen
Before you start, try these useful chunks aloud:
| Function | Useful English |
|---|---|
| Give an opinion | I think ... because ... |
| Ask again | Could you repeat the question, please? |
| Check meaning | Do you mean ...? |
| Add a reason | One reason is ... |
| React | I agree. / I am not sure about that. |
| Gain time | Let me think for a moment. |
Listening and Viewing

First viewing: no transcript. Watch a short part and focus on the situation, the speakers and the type of questions. Do not try to understand every word.
Task 1 – understand: Watch about the first two minutes once. Write three key words only.
Task 2 – respond: Pause after one examiner question. Give your own short answer.
Task 3 – use again: Watch the same part again. This time, notice how the candidates react and continue speaking.
Transcript rule: Use subtitles or a transcript only after your first listening attempt.
Second viewing: conversation and interaction
Watch a short interaction. Listen for:
- a direct answer,
- a reason,
- a reaction to the other speaker,
- a question or suggestion.
The video is a model for speaking practice. Your school task can be shorter and simpler.
Reading: exam card
Fictional task card
You are talking to an examiner about school life.
Examiner: What do you like doing after school?
Examiner: Tell me about a good day at school.
Examiner: Which school activity would you recommend to a new student? Why?
Your goal: Give two or three sentences per answer. Add one reason. Ask for help if you do not understand.
Context vocabulary
| Topic | Words and chunks |
|---|---|
| School | subject, lesson, break, project, club, timetable |
| Free time | meet friends, play, watch, practise, relax |
| Opinion | I think, in my view, for me, because |
| Interaction | really, I see, good idea, maybe, what about you |
| Presentation | first, next, another point, finally |
| Mediation | the main point is, it says that, you need to know |
Use words you know well. A simple correct sentence is better than a difficult sentence you cannot control.
Pronunciation and fluency

Practise in thought groups, not word by word:
I think / the school club is useful / because you can meet people.
Focus on:
- clear key words,
- small pauses,
- complete ideas,
- understandable speech.
Do not stop for every small grammar mistake.
Speaking: AI exam simulation
Use a fictional profile only.
| Fictional profile | Information |
|---|---|
| Name | Jamie |
| Age | 15 |
| Interests | cycling, music, school media club |
| Future idea | a short work-experience week in a local shop |
AI prompt:
Act as a friendly English examiner for Year 9, G level, Baden-Württemberg. Use E9-G-level language: frequent words, short clear questions and moderate speed. Ask one question at a time. Use this fictional profile only: Jamie, 15, likes cycling, music and the school media club. Do not ask for real personal data. Do not correct me while I am answering. If I get stuck, first repeat or simplify the question. Then give one short hint. After the complete task, give short feedback on: 1. task completion, 2. interaction, 3. clear language, 4. one grammar point to improve. Then ask me to try one answer again.
Conversation cycle: understand → respond → ask → hint → improve → use again.
Short exam round
Round A – conversation
AI asks 4 short questions about school, free time or plans.
Your answer:
- 2–3 connected sentences,
- one reason,
- one reaction or follow-up question during the round.
Round B – presentation
Speak for about 45–60 seconds about: A school activity I would recommend.
Then the AI asks two short presentation questions.
Help levels
| Level | Help |
|---|---|
| Help 1 | Repeat the question. |
| Help 2 | Use easier words. |
| Help 3 | Give me three key words, not a full answer. |
| Help 4 | Give me a sentence starter. |
Use the smallest help you need.
Mediation
Do not translate every word. Give the important information in simple English.
German prompt:
Der Jugendtreff ist am Freitag von 16 bis 20 Uhr geöffnet. Der Eintritt ist kostenlos. Jugendliche können Brettspiele spielen, Musik machen oder an einem kleinen Kochkurs teilnehmen. Für den Kochkurs muss man sich bis Donnerstag anmelden.
Situation: Your English-speaking exchange partner asks what they need to know.
Your task: Give 3–4 key points in English. Then answer one follow-up question.
Possible start: The youth centre is open on Friday. The main point is ...
Writing
After the speaking task, choose one short follow-up.
| Text type | Task | Length |
|---|---|---|
| Invite a fictional exchange partner to a school activity. | 70–90 words | |
| Opinion text | Is AI practice useful for speaking? | 80–100 words |
| Short report | What helped you during the simulation? | 70–90 words |
| Job-related text | Write a short fictional work-experience message. | 70–90 words |
Use a clear beginning, middle and ending. Keep your first version before you revise it.
Functional grammar
Communication first. Focus on a few useful accuracy goals.
| Goal | Example |
|---|---|
| Question forms | Could you repeat the question? |
| Reasons with because | I like the club because it is friendly. |
| Modal verbs | We could meet after school. |
| Past events | Last week we worked on a project. |
| Future plans | I am going to join the club next term. |
Do not try to fix everything at once.
Feedback after the task
Ask for feedback after the whole round.
| Check | Question |
|---|---|
| Task | Did I answer the question? |
| Interaction | Did I react or ask something? |
| Clarity | Was my main message easy to understand? |
| Accuracy | What is one important language point to improve? |
| Next try | Which answer should I repeat now? |
Check AI feedback. If a correction looks strange, compare it with your class notes, textbook or teacher feedback.
Fehleranalyse
| Problem | Better strategy |
|---|---|
| Very short answer | Add one reason with because. |
| You do not understand | Ask for repetition or easier words. |
| Long pause | Use Let me think for a moment. |
| Grammar blocks speaking | Finish the message first. Correct one key point later. |
| AI gives too much help | Ask for key words only. |
Transfer
Use the same cycle with a partner, without AI:
question → answer → reaction → follow-up → feedback → second try

Can-do-Check
