Hint: You only need one short sentence.
Deutsch-Hilfe, wenn nötig: Du beschreibst nur, was du auf dem Bild erkennst. Es geht noch nicht um Deine eigene Mediennutzung.
In this aiMOOC you talk about a fictional digital day. You use invented data, short time diagrams and simple English. You never have to give private screen-time data, private account names or private social-media information.

Learning path: notice → understand → try → use → communicate → feedback → improve → use again
Privacy rule: Use the fictional profiles in this course. If you create your own example, invent the data.
I can ...
After this course, you can say:
- I can name digital activities.

Reading
Three fictional profiles
Profile A – Mia
Mia uses digital media at different times. In the morning, she listens to music for ten minutes. After school, she uses a laptop for homework. Later, she sends messages. In the evening, she watches one short video. She also plays a game for ten minutes.
Profile B – Jay
Jay often uses a tablet after school. He first checks his homework platform for twenty minutes. Then he listens to a podcast for fifteen minutes. In the evening, he sometimes plays an online game for twenty minutes. He does not use his phone during dinner.
Profile C – Sam
Sam usually uses a laptop in the afternoon. Sam does homework online for thirty minutes and then takes a break. Later, Sam watches a tutorial for fifteen minutes. In the evening, Sam sends two messages and puts the phone away.
Try: Find one answer for each question.
- Who listens to a podcast?
- Who takes a break after homework?
- Who does not use a phone during dinner?
Hint: Scan for the key words podcast, break and dinner.
Deutsch-Hilfe: Suche gezielt nach den Schlüsselwörtern. Du musst nicht jeden Satz übersetzen.
Read a second time: Notice useful language
Look for these patterns:
Time: in the morning · after school · in the afternoon · in the evening Frequency: usually · often · sometimes Order: first · then · later Reason: because
Model: Jay sometimes plays a game in the evening. Model: Sam takes a break because thirty minutes of homework is enough for one block.

| message | send a message |
| video | watch a video |
| music | listen to music |
| game | play a game |
| homework | do homework |

Try: Pick four chunks. Make four short sentences about Mia, Jay or Sam.
Do not use private data.
Pronunciation
Speak clearly, not perfectly
Goal: Be easy to understand. You do not need a perfect accent.
Say these chunks slowly:
I usually watch videos after school. I sometimes play a game in the evening. I listen to music in the morning.
Now say them again in small groups of words:
I usually / watch videos / after school. I sometimes / play a game / in the evening. I listen to music / in the morning.
Tip: Stress the important words: usually – watch – videos – school.
Partner feedback: Could you understand the time and the activity?
Deutsch-Hilfe: Deutlich sprechen ist wichtiger als akzentfrei sprechen.
Speaking
Ask and answer

Use only fictional information.
A: When does Mia use her laptop? B: She uses it after school.
A: What does Jay do in the evening? B: He sometimes plays a game.
A: How long does Sam watch a tutorial? B: For fifteen minutes.
Useful questions:
What does ... do? When does ...? How long does ...? Does ... use ...?
Useful answers:
He/She ... At ... After school. For ... minutes. Yes, he/she does. No, he/she doesn't.
Speaking ladder
Step 1 – easy: Say one activity. Step 2 – better: Add a time. Step 3 – connected: Add then or later. Step 4 – explain: Add one reason with because.
Example: Mia uses a laptop after school. Then she sends messages. Later, she watches a video because she wants to relax.
Writing
Writing frame: A fictional digital day
Write 5–7 sentences about an invented person.
Sentence starters:
In the morning, ... After school, ... First, ... Then, ... Later, ... In the evening, ... He/She usually ... He/She sometimes ... He/She ... because ...
Word bank: phone · laptop · tablet · music · message · video · homework · game · break
Model text:
Alex uses a laptop after school. First, Alex does homework for twenty minutes. Then Alex takes a break. Later, Alex listens to music. In the evening, Alex watches a short video. Alex sometimes plays a game because it is fun.
Check: Did you use a time phrase? Did you use then or later? Did you use a full stop?
Important: The person and the data can be completely invented.
Mediation
English first – German help only when needed
A German classmate asks: „Wann nutzt Mia digitale Medien?“
Do not translate every word. Give the key information in simple English.
Try: Mia ...
Hint: Use two time phrases and two activities.
Possible structure: In the morning, Mia ... After school, she ...
Deutsch-Hilfe: Vermittle nur die wichtigsten Informationen. Eine Wort-für-Wort-Übersetzung ist nicht nötig.
Functional grammar
Present simple for routines
Use the present simple for routines and repeated activities.
I watch videos. You play games. Mia watches videos. Jay plays games.
Notice: With he / she / it, the verb often gets -s.
Try:
Mia ___ a video. Jay ___ a game. Sam ___ a laptop.
Hint: watches · plays · uses
Frequency words
usually = often true often = many times sometimes = not always
Put the word before the main verb:
Mia usually uses a laptop after school. Jay sometimes plays a game.
Try: Make one sentence with usually and one with sometimes.
Give a reason with because
because connects an action and a reason.
Sam watches a tutorial because it helps with homework.
Try: Mia listens to music because ...
Hint: it is fun · it helps her relax · she likes the song
E-Ausblick: one controlled past perfect example
This is only a small look ahead. You do not need it for the main tasks.
By 8 p.m., Sam had finished the online homework.
Notice only the form: had + past participle.
For this course, keep using the present simple in your own main texts.
Time diagrams with fictional data

All data are invented.
| Activity | Time | Visual bar |
|---|---|---|
| music | 10 min | ■■ |
| homework online | 25 min | ■■■■■ |
| messages | 15 min | ■■■ |

| game | 10 min | ■■ |
Read it: Which activity is longest? Which two activities have the same time?
Sentence starter: The longest activity is ...
Diagram B: Jay
| Time | Activity |
|---|---|
| 15:15–15:35 | homework platform |
| 16:10–16:25 | podcast |
| 18:30–18:50 | game |
| 20:00–20:10 | messages |
Mini-transfer: Say the order with first – then – later – in the evening.

|---|---|---|---|
| Mia | 25 min | 40 min | 15 min |
| Jay | 20 min | 35 min | 10 min |
| Sam | 30 min | 15 min | 10 min |
Try: Make two factual comparison sentences.
Model: Sam has more learning time than Jay. Mia has more entertainment time than Sam.
Important: The table is not a rating of good or bad media use. It is only practice data.
Media and balance

Digital media can be used for learning, communication and entertainment. A balanced day can also include sleep, school, movement, hobbies, friends, family and breaks.
Think about the fictional profiles, not about private data.
Try: Which profile includes a break? Which profile has a screen-free dinner?
Useful chunk: A break can help because ...

Improve one thing only.
First version: Mia use a laptop after school. Improved version: Mia uses a laptop after school.
First version: Jay plays a game. Improved version: Jay plays a game in the evening.
