E7 G - Meet the story – Guided reading
E7 G - Meet the story – Guided reading
Mini-Beschreibung: Begleite eine levelgerechte Ganzschrift oder längere Geschichte mit Figurenkarten, Kapitelbildern, Audio-/Video-Impulsen und kurzen comprehension tasks. Dieser aiMOOC ist für Englisch als erste Fremdsprache, Klasse 7, Baden-Württemberg, G-Niveau gedacht. Er hilft Dir beim Verstehen – die Originallektüre bleibt immer die zentrale Quelle und wird hier nicht ersetzt.

Your route: notice → understand → try → use → communicate → feedback → improve → use again.
Language rule: English first → try → context/media → hint → German help if needed. Es gibt keine automatische Vollübersetzung.
Einleitung
You are reading a longer story in English. You do not need to understand every word. Your job is to find the main idea, important characters, the setting, a problem and useful clues.
Work in short steps. Read a small part. Stop. Think. Use a picture or a word bank. Then read again.
Important: The tasks in this course work with the book or story chosen by your class. They do not copy or replace the original text.
I can – Ziele
- I can find the main idea.
- I can name important characters and places.
- I can use short evidence from the story.
- I can guess what may happen next.
- I can talk about a chapter in short connected sentences.
- I can write a short chapter note with a writing frame.
- I can use help step by step without translating everything.
How to work – E7-G mode
Read or listen to a short section. Focus on one task. New words are limited. Important chunks come back again and again.
Help ladder:
- Try: Read or listen once without help.
- Context: Look at the title, picture, names and repeated words.
- Hint: Use the word bank or sentence starter.
- German help: Nutze eine kurze deutsche Hilfe nur, wenn Du sonst nicht weiterkommst.
Medien-Einstieg
Look at the book you are reading in class. Then answer in simple English:
I can see … I think the story is about … Maybe the main character is …

Mini task: Choose two ideas. Do not check them yet. Keep them as predictions.
Viewing: A story starts
Watch only a short part first. Do not use the transcript before your first try.
BBC Learning English: Alice in Wonderland – Part 1.
First try – gist: Who is the girl? Where is she? What unusual thing appears?
Second try – detail: Note three words you hear.
After listening: Now you may use captions or a transcript if your teacher provides them.
German help if needed: Höre zuerst auf Namen, Ort und ein auffälliges Ereignis. Du musst nicht jedes Wort verstehen.
Optional viewing: What makes a good story?
This video is a little harder. Use only a teacher-selected short section.
Before watching: Choose: characters – place – problem – surprise. Which one is most important for you?
After watching: Say one sentence: A good story needs … because …
Vorwissen aktivieren
Before a new chapter, do a 30-second preview.
- Read the chapter title.
- Look for names you already know.
- Remember the last important event.
- Make one prediction.
Chunk bank: Last time, … Now I think … Maybe … will …
Listening and Viewing

Use short audio or teacher-read parts from the original story.
Listening 1 – main idea: What is happening?
Listening 2 – key detail: Who? Where? Problem?
Listening 3 – check: Listen again with a short word bank.
Rule: Transcript after the first listening attempt, not before.
Private learning: Recording your own voice is voluntary. Keep recordings private unless you actively choose to share them. No automatic upload and no external AI access without permission.
Reading

Before reading
Look at the chapter title and one picture from the book if available.
Finish one sentence:
I think this chapter is about … I expect … Maybe the problem is …
During reading
Read a short section. Stop after a clear event.
Ask:
Who is here? Where are they? What happens? How does a character feel?
Do not underline too much. Mark only one or two useful clues.
After reading
Write a 3-point chapter note:
Character: … Event: … Feeling or problem: …
Then add one prediction:
Next, I think … because …
Character cards
Use fictional story characters only. Do not use private social-media data or real private profiles.
| Character | What I know | Feeling | Evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Name from the story | short fact | happy / worried / angry / excited | one short clue from the text |
Sentence starters: … is … … feels … because … I know this because …
Story map
Build one simple map for each chapter:
| Story part | Your note |
|---|---|
| Character | … |
| Place | … |
| Problem | … |
| Important event | … |
| Next idea | … |
Keep every note short. One phrase is enough.
Kapitelbilder
Draw one simple picture for the chapter. It can show a place, an object, a character or one important moment.
Task: Add three English labels and one sentence:
This picture shows …
A chapter picture is a thinking tool. It does not need to be artistic.
Wortschatz im Kontext
Learn a few useful words from the chapter, not long isolated lists.
Core chunks: a character – a person in the story the setting – place and time a problem – something difficult a clue – a useful small detail to happen – what takes place to predict – say what may come next
Use this mini-frame:
The word is … In the story, it means … My example: …
German help if needed: Lerne zuerst die Bedeutung im Kapitel. Eine einzelne deutsche Stütze ist okay, aber übersetze nicht den ganzen Abschnitt.
Aussprache
Choose only two or three useful chunks.
I think … because … At first … Then … In the end …
Say the chunk slowly. Then say it in one connected sentence.
Goal: Be understandable. Accent-free speech is not the goal.
Speaking

Work with a partner.
A: What happened in the chapter? B: First, … Then, … A: How did the character feel? B: I think … felt … because … A: What may happen next? B: Maybe … will …
Keep the talk short. Use connected sentences, not single words only.
Writing
Write 4–6 sentences about one chapter.
Writing frame:
The chapter is about … At first, … Then, … The main problem is … I think … feels … because … Next, I think …
Use your own ideas. Digital or AI feedback may help you check language, but it should not replace your text. Check whether suggested language really matches your level.
Mediation – optional
A German-speaking friend asks what happened in the chapter.
Give only the most important information in German. Do not translate the whole chapter.
Step 1: Find the main event. Step 2: Choose two important details. Step 3: Explain them briefly in German.
Functional grammar
Grammar helps you talk about the story.
Present simple for stable facts: Mia lives in … The story takes place in …
Past simple for finished events: Mia opened the door. They found a clue.
Questions with did: What did Mia see? Where did they go?
E-lookahead only: Past perfect can show that one past event happened before another past event.
The train had left before they reached the station.
Use this only as a controlled look ahead. You do not need passive voice or reported speech for this course.
Direct feedback
After a task, check only three things:
- Meaning: Can another person understand me?
- Evidence: Did I use one clue from the story?
- Language: Did I use a useful chunk or correct past form?
Partner feedback:
I understand … A good clue is … Try this chunk: …
Then improve one sentence and use it again.
Mini-Transfer
Take the reading strategy to a new chapter.
Notice: title, names, picture. Understand: main event. Try: one short answer. Use: sentence starter. Communicate: tell a partner. Feedback: improve one sentence. Use again: apply the same strategy in the next chapter.
Self-Check: Can do
Choose one answer for each statement: Yes – almost – not yet.
- I can find the main event.
- I can name a character and feeling.
- I can use one clue from the text.
- I can make a prediction.
- I can speak about a chapter in short sentences.
- I can write 4–6 connected sentences.
- I can use hints before asking for a full translation.
Next step: Choose one “almost” or “not yet” point and practise it in the next chapter.
