E7 G - Book and film recommendations

Mini description: Understand short book and film recommendations. Find three parts: description, opinion and reason. Then make your own short recommendation.
Your learning path: notice → understand → try → use → communicate → feedback → improve → use again
I can ...
- I can understand a short recommendation.
- I can find a description, an opinion and a reason.
- I can say: I recommend ...
- I can give a simple reason with because.
- I can write 4–6 connected sentences.
What do you know already?
Look at the picture first.

Think in English first:
Book or film? Funny, exciting or boring? Would you recommend it?
Try:
I like ... I don't like ... It is ... I recommend it because ...
Hint: You do not need perfect English. Short sentences are fine.
Notice: three important parts
A short recommendation often has three parts:
- Description: What is it about?
- Opinion: What do you think?
- Reason: Why do you think that?
Model:
Shadow Island is an adventure film. It is about two friends on a strange island. I think it is exciting because the story has many surprises. I recommend it.
The title and people are fictional.
Spot it:
It is about two friends on a strange island. → description
I think it is exciting. → opinion
because the story has many surprises. → reason

Watch only a short part first. Start around 0:47 and stop after about one minute.
First try – no transcript.
Listen for:
- film types
- one opinion
- one word you know
Second try: Watch again. Now listen for a reason.
Hint: You do not need every word.
Mini transcript model after your listening try:
I like adventure films. I think they are exciting because the stories move fast.
What is the opinion? What is the reason?
Second viewing: opinions
Listen for short opinion phrases. Stop when you have heard two useful chunks.
Try to catch:

Remember: Your own ideas are important. AI feedback may help you check language, but it should not replace your text.
Mediation: short and useful

because = reason
Use because to give a reason.
I like the book because the story is exciting.

Do not make the sentence too long.
Present simple for recommendations
Use the present simple for the story and your opinion:
The film is about two friends. The story starts in London. I think it is funny.
E outlook: past perfect
Only as a small extra:
I liked the ending because the hero had found the missing key.
You only need to notice this form here. It is not the main goal of this course.
