In this aiMOOC, you build a learning path that fits your current English. You use a short competence profile, clear goals, practice, feedback and a portfolio.

Learning loop: notice → understand → try → use → communicate → feedback → improve → use again.

This course is for English as a first foreign language, Grade 7, E-level, Baden-Württemberg. Most instructions are in English. Try first. Use context and media. Take a hint if you need one. German help comes later and only where it is useful.

Media task: Look at the picture for ten seconds. What could help this learner improve: more practice, a clearer goal, better feedback or a different strategy? Give one reason.

Watch with a purpose: Do not try to understand every word. Find two ideas about becoming a better learner. Then decide which idea could help you this week.

Choose one main path and one transfer path. You do not need to do everything at the same depth.

Listening and Viewing

This British Council video shows learners discussing a topic.

First view: What is the discussion mainly about?

Second view: Write three useful phrases for giving an opinion, agreeing, disagreeing or adding an idea.

Third view: Notice how the speakers react to each other. Which reaction keeps the conversation going?

Hint: Listen for stressed key words. You do not need every word.

German help if needed: Höre auf Schlüsselwörter und Reaktionen. Versuche nicht, jeden Satz vollständig zu übersetzen.

Mini-transfer: Use one phrase from the video in a 30-second partner discussion.

Reading

Read this short portfolio note.

This week I wanted to speak more in class. On Monday I answered one question, but I stopped after one sentence. On Wednesday I prepared two useful phrases before the lesson. On Friday I gave my opinion and added a reason. My next step is to ask one follow-up question.

Notice: What changed during the week?

Understand: Which strategy helped?

Try: Underline the sentence that shows the next step.

Use: Write a similar four-sentence note about one English skill.

Direct feedback: A strong portfolio note contains evidence, not only “good” or “bad”. It shows what you did and what you will try next.

Vocabulary in context

Learn words through useful chunks, not isolated lists.

Try: Choose three chunks and use them in sentences about your own learning.

Pronunciation: understandable first

Your goal is clear communication, not copying one “perfect” accent.

Listen for stress, rhythm and linking. Then repeat a short phrase in a way that feels natural and understandable.

Useful phrases: “In my opinion ...”, “I agree because ...”, “My next step is ...”

If you record yourself, keep the recording private unless you freely choose to share it.

Challenge: Listen to a short part only. Find one example of words linking together in natural speech. Try it once, then say the phrase at your own comfortable speed.

Speaking

Use the pattern opinion → reason → example → response.

Prompt: What is one good way to improve English outside a test situation?

Speak for about one minute with a partner. Then switch roles.

Less support: Add a counterpoint: “That can work, but ...”

Perspective change: Explain what a learner with a different strength might choose.

Quick feedback: Your partner gives one “works well” point and one “next step”.

Writing

Write a short learning-plan paragraph of about 80–120 words.

Use this structure:

Current point: What can you already do?

Goal: What do you want to improve?

Action: What will you do?

Evidence: How will you know it worked?

Review: When will you check your progress?

Hint: Use because, but, so, first, then and next.

Direct feedback check: Does every sentence help explain your plan? Delete repetition. Add one concrete example if your plan is too general.

Mediation

A classmate has a German note:

Ich verstehe Texte gut, aber bei Hörtexten verliere ich schnell den Faden. Ich will zuerst auf Schlüsselwörter achten und danach Details prüfen.

Explain the message in simple English for an English-speaking partner. Do not translate word by word. Keep the main meaning.

Possible start: “The learner is good at reading, but ...”

Grammar that helps you communicate

Use grammar for a purpose.

Function	Useful form	Example

plan	will / going to	I am going to practise twice this week.
comparison	better / more clearly	I can explain my ideas more clearly now.

E-look ahead only: “I had practised the key phrases before I joined the discussion.” The past perfect can show which past action happened first. Keep this as an optional controlled preview. Passive and reported speech are not learning targets here.

Feedback and improve

You do not need to understand the whole BBC scene. Focus on the idea of feedback and useful reactions.

Use this feedback frame:

Try it: Give feedback on a fictional learner sentence: “I want to get better at English.”

Stronger version: “I want to speak for one minute about a familiar topic and give at least two reasons.”

Why is the second goal stronger? Explain in English.

Mini-transfer

Choose one real school situation: a short presentation, partner talk, listening task, reading task or paragraph.

Before the task, choose one strategy.

During the task, use it.

After the task, collect one piece of evidence.

Then answer: Did the strategy help? What will you keep or change?

Portfolio and Can-do check

Your portfolio can be paper or digital. It stays private unless you decide otherwise.

Keep only small pieces of evidence: one goal, one short text, one feedback note, one reflection or one optional private audio recording.

Safe and smart use of media and AI

Use fictional examples instead of private social-media data. Do not upload recordings or personal texts unless you actively choose to do so and your school rules allow it.

AI can suggest feedback, examples or practice, but you check whether the language level and feedback fit your goal. AI should not replace your own text.

External media are used for learning. No account or upload is required for the tasks. If an external video is not available in your school setting, use the text and image task instead.
