E6 M - Write a personal email about an experience
E6 M - Write a personal email about an experience
Mini-Beschreibung: Write a short personal email about a real or fictional experience. Use a clear email structure, simple past forms and connected sentences.

Einleitung
You had an interesting day. Now you want to tell a friend about it in an email.
Your goal: Write a short, friendly email with several connected sentences.
Keep it safe: Use fictional names, places and email addresses in class. Do not post personal data. Audio recordings are voluntary and should stay private. Do not upload texts, voices or pictures to external AI services unless your school and your family have clearly allowed it.
AI rule: If you use AI with permission, check the result and write the final text in your own words.
Media start: What happened?
Look at the pictures. Choose one experience.

Think in English first:
- Where are the children?
- What did they do?
- How did they feel?
Hint
Use: They went ... / They saw ... / It was ... / They felt ...
Deutsch-Hilfe
Du musst nicht alles beschreiben. Wähle zwei oder drei wichtige Informationen: Ort, Handlung, Gefühl.

Quick choice: Which experience would you like to write about: a hike, a birthday party, a school trip or your own idea?
I can ...
At the end, you can say:
- I can start and finish a personal email.
- I can write 6–8 connected sentences about an experience.
- I can use simple past forms such as went, saw, had, was, were.
- I can connect ideas with and, but, because, so, then.
- I can ask my friend one simple question.
- I can check whether my email is clear and friendly.

Hi Mia,
Last Saturday, I went to a lake with my cousin. We rode our bikes there and had a picnic. Then we played a ball game near the water. It was sunny, but the water was very cold. I was tired because we cycled a lot, but I felt really happy. What did you do at the weekend?

Practise: Connect your sentences
Short sentences are clear. Connected sentences are better for an email.
Notice:
We went to the park. We played football.
→ We went to the park and we played football.
I was tired. I was happy.
→ I was tired, but I was happy.
I liked the trip. It was exciting.
→ I liked the trip because it was exciting.
Your turn:
- We visited the museum. We saw a dinosaur skeleton.
- It rained. We had fun.
- I was hungry. I ate a sandwich.
Hint
Try and, but or so.
Deutsch-Hilfe
Verbinde jeweils zwei Gedanken sinnvoll. Es gibt manchmal mehr als eine gute Lösung.
Possible solutions
We visited the museum and we saw a dinosaur skeleton.
It rained, but we had fun.
I was hungry, so I ate a sandwich.
Grammar for communication: simple past
For a finished experience, you often need simple past forms.
| Today | Past experience |
|---|---|
| go | went |
| see | saw |
| have | had |
| play | played |
| visit | visited |
| like | liked |
| am / is | was |
| are | were |
Use it: Yesterday we visited a farm and saw many animals.
Do not try to make every sentence difficult. Clear English is more important.
Pronunciation
For speaking practice, say these chunks slowly first:
Last Saturday
We went to the park.
It was exciting.
I was tired because we walked a lot.
What did you do?
Focus: Stress the important words. Your goal is to be easy to understand, not to sound like a particular accent.
Optional: Listen to a short part about sentence stress. You do not need to copy an accent.
Deutsch-Hilfe
Betone wichtige Inhaltswörter etwas stärker. Entscheidend ist, dass andere Dich gut verstehen.
Speak before you write
Tell a partner about one experience in 30–45 seconds.
Use this path:
When? → Where? → What happened? → How did you feel? → One question
Example:
Last Sunday, I went to the zoo with my aunt. We saw the elephants and took a break near the playground. It was cold, but I had a great day. I felt happy because I love animals. What did you do on Sunday?
Recording: Only record your voice if you want to and if your teacher allows it. Keep recordings private.

Subject: My school trip
Hi Noah,
Yesterday our class went to a science museum. First, we watched a short show about space. Then I tried a small experiment with my friend. It was difficult, but it was fun. I liked the robot room because we could control a little robot. I was tired on the bus home, but I had a great day. Have you ever been to a science museum?
Bye for now,
Ava
Check your understanding:
- Where did Ava go?
- What did she watch?
- What did she try?
- Why did she like the robot room?
- How did she feel on the bus home?
Hint
Look for museum, show, experiment, robot room and bus.
Deutsch-Hilfe
Suche gezielt die Stellen im Text. Du musst nicht jedes Wort übersetzen.
Solutions
She went to a science museum.
She watched a short show about space.
She tried a small experiment.

Optional mediation
Your German-speaking friend asks: Was war für Ava das Beste im Museum?
Answer in simple German with the important information only.
Hint
Find the sentence with I liked ... because ...
Possible solution
Ava mochte den Roboterraum besonders, weil sie dort einen kleinen Roboter steuern konnte.
Use: Write your email
Task: Write a personal email about a real or fictional experience.
Write about 60–80 words.
Include:
- a greeting
- when and where
- two or three things that happened
- one feeling
- at least two linking words
- one question to your friend
- a friendly ending and your first name
Use fictional details for school practice.
Step 1: Try English first
Plan with five notes only:
| Question | Your note |
|---|---|
| When? | ... |
| Where? | ... |
| What happened? | ... |
| How did you feel? | ... |
| What will you ask? | ... |
Step 2: Hint
Start like this if you need help:
Hi ...,
Last ... I went ...
First, ... Then, ...
It was ..., but ...
I felt ... because ...
What did you ...?
See you soon,
...
Step 3: Deutsch-Hilfe
Deutsch-Hilfe
Plane nur fünf Punkte: Zeitpunkt, Ort, zwei Ereignisse, Gefühl, Rückfrage. Schreibe danach zusammenhängende Sätze. Nutze kurze, sichere Formen. Du musst nicht jedes Detail erzählen.
Step 4: Example
Example
Subject: My Sunday
Hi Jamie,
Last Sunday, I went to a climbing hall with my brother. First, we learned how to use the ropes. Then I climbed a high wall. I was nervous, but my brother helped me. After that, we had pizza. I was tired because climbing was hard, but I felt proud. What did you do on Sunday?
See you soon,
Alex
Step 5: Solution check
There is more than one good email.
Ask yourself:
- Is my greeting friendly?
- Did I say when and where?
- Did I write several connected sentences?
- Did I use at least two linking words?
- Did I use past forms for the finished experience?
- Did I say how I felt?
- Did I ask one question?
- Is my email easy to understand?
Feedback
Use this short feedback rule with a partner:
Two stars and one step
- Star 1: One thing that is clear.
- Star 2: One sentence you like.
- Step: One small change that can make the email easier to understand.
Useful feedback phrases:
I understand your experience well.
I like the sentence ...
You could add a linking word here.
Check the past form of ...
Be kind and specific. Do not rewrite your partner's whole email.
Use again
Change your email in one small way.
Choose one:
- Add one detail.
- Replace one repeated word.
- Add because, but, so or then.
- Improve the final question.
- Correct one past form.
Then read the new version once from beginning to end.
