Read a real book. Understand more. Talk about it.

This aiMOOC helps you read an A1+/A2 graded reader or another level-appropriate English book. It gives you pictures, listening ideas, vocabulary help and tasks. It does not replace your book. Keep the original reader next to you and work chapter by chapter.

Important: Do not copy or upload pages from a copyrighted reader. Use the book, legal publisher audio, your own notes and openly licensed media. Recordings are voluntary and stay private unless your teacher gives a safe school option.

Einleitung

You do not need to understand every word. Good readers look for the main idea, important details and clues from the context.

Try this learning cycle again and again:

Language help: Try English first. If you get stuck, use the help steps in this order:

No full automatic translation is needed. Use German only when it really helps you understand or explain something.

Quick start: What do you already know?

Look at your reader. Do not open the first chapter yet.

Read the title and look at the cover.
Name two things you can see.
Make one prediction: I think ...
Find the chapter list. How many chapters are there?
Choose one word from the title or cover that you already know.

Try English first: What may happen in the story?

Hint: Use the title, cover and chapter names.

German help: Was könnte in der Geschichte passieren? Nutze Titel, Bild und Kapitelüberschriften.

Example: I think the story is about a difficult journey.

Check: A prediction is not right or wrong yet. You check it while reading.

Guided reading: Your chapter loop

Use this loop for every chapter. Your teacher can choose only the parts that fit your reader.

Before reading: Look and predict

Look at a chapter picture in your book, a teacher-made picture or an openly licensed picture.

Say three things you notice.
Name one possible place.
Name one possible feeling.
Make one prediction.

Useful language: I can see ... / Maybe ... / I think ... because ... / The character may ...

Tip: Do not search for the whole plot online. Your own prediction is more useful.

During reading: Find the story line

Read one short section first. Then continue.

Ask yourself:

What happens?	one main event
What is the problem?	one short sentence
What changes?	one short sentence

If one word is difficult, do not stop immediately. Read the sentence again and look at the words around it.

Vocabulary help in context

These words help you talk about many stories:

Word	Easy meaning	Example
character	a person in a story	Mia is the main character.
setting	the place and time of a story	The setting is a small town.
clue	a detail that helps you understand	The wet shoes are a clue.
problem	something difficult	The friends have a problem.
solution	a way to solve a problem	They find a simple solution.
chapter	one part of a book	Chapter 3 is very short.
guess	say what you think is possible	I can guess the meaning.
suddenly	quickly and unexpectedly	Suddenly, the door opens.

Word detective: Choose three unknown words from your chapter. For each word, write only: the sentence number or page, your guess, one clue and the dictionary meaning after you check.

Try English first: What could the word mean?

Hint: Look at the sentence before and after it.

German help: Suche Hinweise im Satz und im Zusammenhang, bevor Du im Wörterbuch nachsiehst.

Example: The room was tiny. Only one chair fitted inside. → tiny probably means very small.

Solution/check: Check with a learner dictionary or your class vocabulary list after you have made a guess.

Listen and notice

If your reader includes legal publisher audio, listen to the same short section. If there is no audio, your teacher or a partner can read a short part aloud.

First listen for the main idea. Then listen again and notice voices, stress, pauses and feelings.

Do not record anyone without permission. Your own recording is optional and private.

Reading tip video

Check comprehension

After a chapter, close the book for one minute.

Say the main event in one sentence.
Name one important detail.
Say why one character acted in a certain way.
Give one piece of evidence from the chapter in your own words.
Make one prediction for the next chapter.

Do not copy long sentences from the book. Use your own English.

Pronunciation: Clear is the goal

Choose three useful words from your chapter. Listen to legal audio or a trusted dictionary pronunciation if available. Mark the stressed syllable and say the words in a short sentence.

Examples: CHARacter, PROBlem, soLUtion.

Then read one short sentence from your own notes aloud.

Remember: Being easy to understand is more important than sounding like a native speaker.

Speak: Retell and react

Work with a partner or small group.

Round 1 – Retell: Speak for about 45–60 seconds. Tell the main events in your own words.

Round 2 – Character talk: One learner is a character. The others ask open questions such as Why did you ...? What did you think? What will you do now? Answer freely but stay close to the story.

Round 3 – Your view: Say what you liked, found strange or would do differently.

Use simple past for finished story events when it helps: She opened the door. They found the bag. Use present simple for opinions: I think the character is brave.

Short writing: My chapter in 6–8 sentences

Write one short connected text. Include the setting, the main event, one problem, one reaction and your prediction.

You may use: First ... Then ... After that ... In the end ... I think ...

Now improve your text once. Check meaning first, then verbs, spelling and punctuation.

AI rule: If your school allows AI, check every suggestion and write the final text yourself. Do not send copyrighted book pages, personal data or private recordings to an external AI service.

Optional mediation

Explain one short piece of information from the chapter to a German-speaking classmate who has not understood it.

Do not translate sentence by sentence. Give the important meaning in simple German.

Then go back to English and say the same main idea in one simple English sentence.

Feedback and use again

Give one useful comment to a partner:

I understood ...

One strong point is ...

Please make ... clearer.

Then repeat the speaking task or rewrite two sentences. Your second try should be clearer, not simply longer.

Character interview: Prepare five open questions for a character and act out a free interview with a partner.

Private audio guide: Create a short private audio guide with your own chapter summary, vocabulary help and one prediction. Do not upload copyrighted text.
Mini book talk: Give a short presentation about the reader without spoilers. Include one theme, one character, one short evaluation and one question for the class.

Lernkontrolle

Prediction check: Compare one early prediction with what really happened. Explain what clue changed your idea.
Evidence task: Choose one action by a character and explain the reason for it using two details from the chapter in your own words.
Context transfer: Take one new word from the reader, explain how you guessed it and use it correctly in a new sentence.
Retell for a new listener: Retell one chapter to someone who has not read it. Ask what was unclear and improve your retelling.
Connected writing: Write a short paragraph that links two events with clear connectors and shows why the second event follows from the first.
Source check: Decide whether a picture, audio file or online summary is safe and useful for school work. Explain your decision with copyright, privacy and learning in mind.
