Here is our fictional shop.

Ask about price and quantity

Use the question that fits the situation.

How much is the cheese? – It is €2.20.

How much is the juice? – It is €1.80.

How many apples do we need? – We need three apples.

How many rolls do we need? – We need three rolls.

Do we have any water? – Yes, we have some water.

This grammar helps you do something: shop, plan and speak. You do not need a long grammar rule.

Give reasons

Use because to explain a choice.

I choose three apples because we are three people.

I choose water because everyone can drink it.

I do not choose grapes because they cost €2.50.

Reading: Mia, Ben and Leo plan a picnic

Mia, Ben and Leo have €10.00. They want a small picnic for three people. Mia says, “Let’s buy three rolls.” Ben wants apples. Leo asks, “How much is the cheese?” The cheese is €2.20. They also choose water and orange juice. They check the total before they go to the checkout.

Check the text:

Who has the picnic?
What food does Ben want?
What does Leo ask?
Why do they check the total?

Pronunciation: Clear is the goal

Say these words slowly, then in a short sentence: picnic – budget – bottle – cheese – juice – price.

Main task: Stay under €10

Plan a picnic for three people. Use the fictional price list.

Your plan should have:

at least one drink
at least two different foods
a clear quantity for each item
a total of €10.00 or less
two short reasons in English

Try English first: Make your list and explain it.

Hint: “We need ...” / “It costs ...” / “I choose ... because ...” / “The total is ...”

Deutsch-Hilfe: Stelle einen kleinen Einkauf zusammen. Wichtig ist vor allem, dass Du Mengen, Preise und Gründe auf Englisch ausdrückst.

Possible solution: Three rolls cost €2.10. Three apples cost €1.80. Cheese costs €2.20. Water costs €1.00. Juice costs €1.80. The total is €8.90. “I choose three apples because we are three people. I choose water because everyone can drink it.”

A German-speaking friend asks: “Was soll ich für das Picknick mitbringen?”

Explain the key information in simple English. Do not translate every word.

Hint: “Please bring ... We need ... The budget is ...”

Write 5–7 connected sentences about your picnic plan.
