E6 E - My English portfolio Klasse 6

Mini-Beschreibung: Build a small English portfolio with strong examples of your work: audio, texts, a story task, mediation, a presentation, a media product and Can-do checks. Show what you can do and what you want to improve.

Media start: Watch a short part chosen by your teacher. Do not copy every sentence. Notice: What makes the speaker easy to understand?

Privacy first: Use fictional names and invented personal details in public tasks. Recordings are voluntary and should stay private or inside an approved school system. Do not upload your face, full name, school, address or location without clear permission. No external AI tool is needed.

Einleitung

Your portfolio is a collection of learning evidence. It can show speaking, listening, reading, writing, mediation and media skills. You choose useful examples, improve them after feedback and add a short reflection.

Learning path: Notice → understand → practise → use → feedback → use again.

This course is for English as a first foreign language, Klasse 6, E-Niveau, Baden-Württemberg. It works with the competence areas listening/viewing, reading, speaking, writing, mediation, vocabulary, pronunciation and text/media competence.

Language rule: Try English first. If you get stuck, use the help steps:

  1. Try English first: Say or write what you can.
  2. Hint: Use keywords, sentence starters or the picture.
  3. German help: Read only the short German hint.
  4. Example: Look at one model.
  5. Solution: Check only after your own try.

I-can goals

At the end, you can say:

  1. I can choose good examples of my English work.
  2. I can speak for about one minute on a familiar topic.
  3. I can write a short connected text with clear ideas.
  4. I can retell the main points of a short story.
  5. I can pass on important information between German and English.
  6. I can give useful feedback and improve my work.
  7. I can explain one next learning goal.

Quick check: What can you already do?

Read the statements. Choose Not yet, With help or I can for yourself.

Can-do Not yet With help I can
I can introduce a topic clearly. □ □ □
I can understand the main idea of a short English video. □ □ □
I can write a connected paragraph. □ □ □
I can ask follow-up questions. □ □ □
I can improve a text after feedback. □ □ □

Your goal: Finish this sentence privately: This time I want to get better at ...

Build your portfolio

A strong portfolio does not need many pages. It needs useful evidence. For each item, add:

  1. a short title
  2. the skill you show
  3. one thing that works well
  4. one thing you changed
  5. one next step

Portfolio item: Audio – My one-minute update

Task: Speak for about one minute about a school week, hobby, book, game, place or project. Use keywords, not a full script.

Try English first: Start with a clear topic sentence. Add two or three details. End with one short comment.

Hint: My topic is ... / One thing I like is ... / Last week I ... / The best part was ...

Deutsch-Hilfe: Sprich frei mit Stichwörtern. Eine verständliche Botschaft ist wichtiger als ein perfekter Akzent.

Example: My topic is skateboarding. I practise in a small park near my home. Last Saturday I learned a new turn. It was difficult, but I kept trying. Next I want to practise a smoother landing.

Feedback: Can your partner understand the main message without seeing your notes?

Pronunciation: Make your message clear

Do not try to sound like one special accent. Aim for understandable English.

Practise this sentence: My favourite part was the final challenge.

  1. Mark the important words.
  2. Read once slowly.
  3. Read again in a natural rhythm.
  4. Make a private recording if you want.
  5. Listen once and choose one small improvement.

Portfolio item: Reading and story retell

Read this short story.

The missing poster

On Tuesday, Jamie's class prepared a small science show. Jamie made a poster about clean water and put it next to the classroom door. After lunch, the poster was gone. Jamie first looked under the tables and behind the bookcase. Then Noor remembered that the art club used the room during lunch. They asked the art teacher. She smiled and pointed to the hall. The poster was there. A student had moved it because wet paint was drying near the door. Jamie was relieved. Before the science show started, Jamie added one new label and checked the facts again.

Your task: Retell the story in your own words. Keep the important events and leave out small details.

Hint: Who? Problem? Search? Solution? Ending?

Deutsch-Hilfe: Erzähle den Handlungsfaden, nicht jeden Satz.

Portfolio item: Short writing

Write 90–120 words about one learning moment: a task that was difficult at first but became easier.

Use grammar to communicate meaning. You may use language you already know, for example simple present for routines, simple past for a finished event, can/can't for ability and familiar question forms. Do not turn the task into a grammar list.

Writing check:

  1. Is there a clear beginning?
  2. Are the ideas connected?
  3. Did you add useful details?
  4. Did you check common spelling and punctuation?
  5. Can a reader understand your message easily?

Portfolio item: Mediation

Situation: A fictional German exchange visitor, Leo, reads this note:

Treffpunkt ist am Freitag um 15 Uhr vor der Stadtbibliothek. Bringt etwas zu trinken mit. Die Führung dauert ungefähr 45 Minuten. Danach gehen wir gemeinsam zum Jugendzentrum.

Your English-speaking partner asks: What do I need to know?

Give the important information in English. Do not translate every word.

Hint: meeting point – time – what to bring – duration – what happens next

Deutsch-Hilfe: Sprachmittlung bedeutet sinngemäß übertragen. Wichtig ist, was die andere Person wissen muss.

Possible answer: We meet on Friday at 3 pm in front of the town library. Bring a drink. The tour takes about 45 minutes. After that, the group goes to the youth centre.

Portfolio item: Presentation

Prepare a two-minute presentation with a simple visual aid. Choose a familiar topic such as a hobby, a book, a school project, an animal, a place or a useful invention.

Watch only the part your teacher selects. Notice how the speakers answer, react and keep the conversation going. The video is an example of real learner English, not a model you must copy exactly.

Presentation plan:

  1. Open: Today I'd like to show you ...
  2. Give two or three clear points.
  3. Add one example or picture.
  4. Finish with one key message.
  5. Answer one follow-up question.

Portfolio item: Media product

Create one small media product:

  1. a three-slide presentation
  2. an audio postcard
  3. a photo story with captions
  4. a one-page digital poster

Use only media you are allowed to use. Wikimedia Commons can help you find openly licensed material. Check the file page and licence before reuse.

Privacy: Use fictional names and non-identifying pictures. Do not publish classmates' voices, faces or personal data without permission.

Feedback that helps

Give short, specific feedback:

Two strengths: Your main idea was clear. / Your example helped me understand.

One next step: Try a stronger ending. / Speak a little more slowly in the middle.

Then revise your work. Keep the first version only if it helps you show your progress.

Can-do check and reflection

Choose one answer for each statement: Not yet – With help – I can – I can explain it to someone else.

  1. I can choose useful portfolio evidence.
  2. I can speak in connected sentences about a familiar topic.
  3. I can retell the main points of a short text.
  4. I can write a short connected text.
  5. I can mediate key information.
  6. I can use feedback to improve a product.
  7. I can protect private information in a media task.

Finish: One thing I can do better now is ... My next step is ... The portfolio item that shows my progress best is ... because ...
