Einleitung

Learning English is not the same for everyone. Maybe you understand a lot when you listen, but you need more practice when you speak. Maybe reading feels easy, but writing takes more time. A personal learning path helps you choose the next useful step.

In this aiMOOC you use a simple cycle:

Notice → understand → practise → use → feedback → use again.

You do not need to practise everything at the same time. First find out what you can already do. Then choose a small goal that you can check later.

Step 1: Check what you can do

Step 2: Choose one clear goal

A useful goal is small and checkable.

Too big: “I want to be better at English.”

Better: “By Friday, I can speak for one minute about my weekend with only short notes.”

Better: “After three practice rounds, I can understand the main idea and three details in a short audio text.”

Better: “I can write 70–90 words about a familiar topic and connect ideas with words such as and, but, because, then.”

Goal builder

Complete one sentence:

My goal is: By __________, I can __________. I will practise by __________. I will know I can do it when __________.

Hint: Choose a skill and one real task.

Deutsch-Hilfe: Ein gutes Lernziel sagt, was Du können willst, wie Du übst und woran Du Fortschritt erkennst.

Step 3: Listening

Listen in three rounds:

First listen: What is the topic?
Second listen: Write three key words.
Third listen: Check one detail you missed before.

This Cambridge English video shows a young learner speaking with an examiner. You do not need to copy the test. Use a short part as listening and speaking input.

Task: What kinds of questions do you hear? What does the learner do when speaking about pictures or personal topics?

Hint: Listen for question words such as what, where, who, how.

Step 4: Vocabulary in context

Learn words inside useful phrases, not as isolated lists.

Use it: Choose four phrases and make true sentences about your learning.

Step 5: Pronunciation and speaking

Clear speech is more important than sounding like a native speaker.

Try this speaking routine:

Read your short answer silently.
Mark two important words.
Say the answer slowly and clearly.
Say it again in a natural rhythm.
Ask a partner: “Was I easy to understand?”

A recording is optional and should stay private unless you and your teacher have agreed otherwise. You do not need to upload your voice.

Speaking challenge: Look at a picture or think of your last weekend. Speak for 45–60 seconds with only five key words.

Useful phrases: “First ...”, “Then ...”, “After that ...”, “I think ... because ...”, “My favourite part was ...”

Hint: If you stop, use a simple word you know.

Deutsch-Hilfe: Verständlichkeit ist wichtiger als Akzentfreiheit. Wenn Dir ein Wort fehlt, umschreibe es.

Example: “It is a place where you can borrow books.” → library.

Step 6: Reading

Read this fictional learner profile:

Mia's learning note

“I understand short stories quite well. In videos, I often understand the topic, but I miss details when people speak fast. I like speaking with a partner, but I need time to find words. This week I want to practise listening. I will watch two short English videos. First I will listen for the main idea. Then I will listen again and write three details. On Friday I will try a new video and compare my result.”

Reading tasks:

What is Mia's strength?

Hint: Underline words about strength, difficulty, goal, practice and check.

Step 7: Short writing output

Write a short learning note of about 70–90 words.

Use this structure if you need it:

My English learning note

“I can already ... . I find ... easy because ... . I still find ... difficult. My goal for this week is ... . I will practise by ... . I will use ... to help me. At the end of the week, I will ... . Then I will decide my next step.”

Use grammar you already know to communicate clearly. Present simple, present continuous for what is happening now, simple past for completed past events, questions and useful modal verbs such as can are enough for this task.

Feedback check: Is the text clear? Are the ideas connected? Can the reader understand your goal and plan?

Step 8: Mediation

Imagine this fictional situation:

Your German-speaking friend asks what your English task is. The teacher's note says:

“Choose one skill. Practise it three times this week. Keep one example in your portfolio. On Friday, write two sentences about your progress.”

Explain the task in simple German. Then explain the German reminder „Du musst nichts hochladen. Eine private Notiz reicht.“ in simple English.

Hint: Pass on the meaning, not every single word.

Example: “You don't have to upload anything. A private note is enough.”

Step 9: Build your one-week learning path

Important: Repeating the same skill in a new situation is useful. You do not always need a new topic.

Portfolio

Your portfolio can be on paper or in a private school-approved digital space.

Keep only a few useful pieces:

one Can-do profile,
one goal,
one first attempt,
one piece of feedback,
one improved attempt,
one short reflection.

Do not use real private data in practice tasks. Use fictional names and situations. Do not upload recordings, photos or texts unless your teacher clearly asks for it and the school rules allow it. Do not send school work to external AI tools without permission. If you use AI in an allowed setting, check the result and write the final version yourself.

Feedback: two stars and one next step

Give feedback that helps.

Star 1: “I understood your main idea.”

Star 2: “Your examples were clear.”

Next step: “Try to connect two ideas with because.”

Do not correct every small mistake. First ask: Is the message understandable?
