E5 E - Build questions independently
E5 E - Build questions independently
Mini-Beschreibung: Du formulierst zu bekannten Themen selbst einfache Fragen. Du entscheidest: Passt to be, have got, can oder das simple present? Du hörst, sprichst nach, baust eigene Fragen und verwendest sie in kurzen Dialogen.

Start: Look, listen, ask!
Look at the picture. Think of one easy question.
Example: Are you ready?
Now listen. Stop after a few questions. Repeat two questions aloud.
Your loop: see → listen → understand → repeat → use → feedback → use again
Tipp: Du musst nicht jedes Wort verstehen. Höre auf den Anfang der Frage: Are ...?, Have ... got ...?, Can ...? oder Do/Does ...?
Lernziele
After this mini-course, you can ...
- choose a good question structure.
- build simple questions about school, hobbies, family, pets and free time.
- ask and answer questions in a short dialogue.
New words
- question – Frage
- answer – Antwort
- subject – Person oder Sache in der Frage
- hobby – Hobby
- free time – Freizeit
- favourite – Lieblings-

Quick check: What do you know?
Read the four questions.
- Are you in class 5?
- Have you got a pet?
- Can you play the guitar?
- Do you like English?
Think: What is different at the start of each question?
Help: Look only at the first word: Are – Have – Can – Do.
Input: Four useful question patterns
Questions with to be
Use to be when the main verb is am, is, are.
Pattern: Are/Is + subject + ...?
Examples:
Are you new?
Is Mia eleven?
Are they at school?
Try it: You are tired. → Are you tired?
Feedback: Put are before you.
Questions with have got
Use have got to ask about things, pets or features.
Pattern: Have/Has + subject + got + ...?
Examples:
Have you got a bike?
Has Ben got a dog?
Have they got a football?
Try it: Mia has got a cat. → Has Mia got a cat?
Feedback: With Mia/he/she, use has.
Questions with can
Use can for ability or possibility.
Pattern: Can + subject + verb ...?
Examples:
Can you swim?
Can Sam play football?
Can they sing?

Say it aloud: Can you play the guitar?
Then answer: Yes, I can. / No, I can't.
Questions in the simple present
Use do or does for many actions and routines.
Pattern: Do/Does + subject + base verb ...?
Examples:
Do you play tennis?
Do they live in Stuttgart?
Does Mia like music?
Does Ben read comics?

Important: After does, use the base verb.
Does Mia like music? ✓
Does Mia likes music? ✗
Listen and repeat some simple-present questions:
Which structure fits?
Use this mini-map:
- be → Are you ...? / Is she ...?
- have got → Have you got ...? / Has he got ...?
- can → Can you ...?
- other action → Do you ...? / Does she ...?
You can also start with a question word:
Where do you live?
What can you do?
Who is your friend?
What has Mia got in her bag?
Mini dialogue
Mia: Hi! Are you new?
Ben: Yes, I am.
Mia: Have you got a bike?
Ben: Yes, I have.
Mia: Can you ride fast?
Ben: A little.
Mia: Do you play football?
Ben: Yes, I do.
Your turn: Change one topic: bike → pet, football → music, ride → swim.
Listen again. Pause after a question. Repeat it. Then make one similar question of your own.
Help box
Need help?
Are/Is → with to be
Have/Has ... got → possession
Can → ability
Do/Does → action or routine
Does goes with he, she, it or one name.
Do goes with I, you, we, they.
Mini review
Complete in your head:
___ you happy? → Are
___ you got a pet? → Have
___ you swim? → Can
___ you like maths? → Do
___ Mia play tennis? → Does
Now use two of these patterns in new questions.
Safe speaking practice
You may record yourself only if you want to. Keep the recording private on your device or use a school-approved system. Do not upload your voice, name, photo or personal data unless your teacher and your family have agreed.
If a teacher allows an AI helper, check its suggestion with the patterns on this page. Keep your own sentence and your own voice. Do not send personal data.
Clear English is the goal. Your accent does not need to sound like one special model.
