E10 G - Practise English speaking with AI

Einleitung

Speak first, improve second.

Bildungsplan Klasse 10

Medien-Einstieg

Quick start – English only: Look at the interview icon. Say three sentences: What situation can you see? What could be difficult? How could AI help you practise?

Viewing task: Watch a short part first. Do not translate every sentence. Listen for useful interview phrases and note two expressions you could use yourself.

I-can-Ziele

  1. I can understand the main idea of a short, clear English prompt or video.
  2. I can respond with several connected sentences and give a reason or example.
  3. I can ask for repetition or clarification when I do not understand.
  4. I can take part in a short job interview or discussion.
  5. I can present a simple idea and answer a follow-up question.
  6. I can mediate key information between German and English without translating everything.
  7. I can use AI safely with fictional data and check feedback before revising.
  8. I can improve clarity, vocabulary and one accuracy point after speaking.

Dein Lernweg

English first → understand → respond → analyse → communicate → feedback → revise → transfer

  1. English first: Starte mit dem englischen Input.
  2. Understand: Erfasse Thema, Situation und Schlüsselwörter.
  3. Respond: Antworte kurz und zusammenhängend.
  4. Analyse: Prüfe, was schon klar und passend ist.
  5. Communicate: Frage nach, begründe und reagiere.
  6. Feedback: Hole gezielte Rückmeldung ein.
  7. Revise: Verbessere nur wenige wichtige Punkte.
  8. Transfer: Nutze die Strategie in einer neuen Situation.

Vorwissen aktivieren

Answer in English. Use short notes if needed.

  1. What can you already say about your strengths?
  2. How do you give an opinion and a reason?
  3. What can you say when you need more time?
  4. How can you ask somebody to repeat a question?
  5. Which presentation phrases do you already know?

Useful starters: I think … because … / One example is … / Could you repeat that, please? / Let me think for a moment. / Today I’m going to …

Input: Speak with AI at E10-G level

The safe AI prompt

Nutze bei einer freigegebenen KI einen klaren Arbeitsauftrag. Kopiere keine privaten Informationen hinein.

Prompt template:

Act as a friendly English speaking partner. Use English at E10-G level. Keep your language clear, use common vocabulary and ask only one short question at a time. I will answer by speaking. After I speak, give brief feedback on 1) clarity, 2) one useful vocabulary improvement and 3) one important accuracy point. Then ask me to try again. Use only fictional information. Do not ask for personal data.

Du kannst danach eine Situation ergänzen, zum Beispiel: Do a short job interview for a fictional weekend job in a sports shop.

Fallback ohne externe KI: Eine Person liest die Rollenkarte, die andere antwortet. Danach gebt Ihr Euch Feedback mit derselben Dreierstruktur.

Listening and Viewing

Bei Hör- und Hörsehtexten musst Du nicht jedes Wort verstehen. Arbeite in drei Schritten:

  1. First viewing: What is the situation?
  2. Second viewing: Note three key words or phrases.
  3. Third viewing: What could you say in a similar situation?

Focus: Listen for ways to structure an interview answer. Danach sprich eine eigene, fiktive Antwort mit firstly, secondly oder einem einfachen Beispiel.

Reading: a fictional profile

Fictional profile: Jamie Lee

Jamie is 16 and wants to practise for a fictional weekend job in a community sports centre. Jamie likes organising small events, works well in a team and has helped at a school sports day. Jamie sometimes needs a moment to answer unexpected questions.

Read and respond:

  1. What are Jamie’s two strengths?
  2. Which example could Jamie use in an interview?
  3. Which follow-up question could an interviewer ask?

Transfer: Create a new fictional profile. Do not use your real address, phone number, school name, employer or account data.

Kontextwortschatz

English Meaning in this course Useful chunk
strength Stärke One of my strengths is …
experience Erfahrung I have experience with …
example Beispiel A good example is …
opinion Meinung In my opinion …
reason Begründung The main reason is …
clarify klären Could you clarify that?
feedback Rückmeldung One thing to improve is …
revise überarbeiten I’ll try that again.

Productive core: strength, example, opinion, reason, clarify, feedback. Weitere Wörter darfst Du zunächst nur verstehen. Rezeptiver Wortschatz muss nicht automatisch sofort aktiv gesprochen werden.

Aussprache: Verständlichkeit vor Akzentfreiheit

Ziel ist verständliches Englisch, nicht Akzentfreiheit. Achte besonders auf deutliche Schlüsselwörter, sinnvolle Pausen und Wortbetonung.

Mini-practice: Mark the stressed part when you practise these words: EXample, exPERience, PREsentation, comMU-nicate. Höre ein Modell und vergleiche. Verbessere nur, wenn die Verständlichkeit gewinnt.

Speaking 1: Short job interview

Use only a fictional application.

AI situation: You are the interviewer for a fictional weekend job. Use English at E10-G level. Ask me four short questions, one at a time. After each spoken answer, give brief feedback and let me try again.

Answer frame: I’m interested in this job because … One of my strengths is … A good example is … I would like to learn …

Useful clarification: Could you repeat the question, please? / Do you mean …? / Could you say that more slowly?

Speaking 2: Discussion questions

Choose one:

  1. Should students use AI for language practice?
  2. Is feedback more useful during practice or after practice?
  3. Is speaking with notes better than reading a full script?

Response pattern: opinion → reason → example → reaction.

Language help: I think … / I agree because … / I see your point, but … / For example … / What do you think?

No culture stereotypes: talk about people, situations and evidence, not fixed ideas about national or cultural groups.

Speaking 3: Presentation follow-ups

Give a 45–60 second mini-presentation about a familiar topic, for example a hobby, a school project or a fictional product.

Structure: Today I’m going to … → First … → Then … → Finally …

Then ask the AI or a partner for two short follow-up questions. Answer with two or three connected sentences.

If you need time: That’s an interesting question. Let me think for a moment.

Speaking 4: Mediation prompt

Situation: A fictional English-speaking visitor asks about this German notice:

Treffpunkt für die Betriebsbesichtigung: 9:15 Uhr am Haupteingang. Bitte feste Schuhe tragen. Große Taschen bleiben im Schließfach.

Do not translate word for word. Say the relevant information in natural English.

Helpful start: You need to meet at … / Please remember to … / You can leave …

Then let the AI ask one clarification question at E10-G level. Check whether your answer keeps the central meaning.

Functional grammar: small accuracy steps

Trainiere Grammatik dort, wo sie die Kommunikation klarer macht.

Function Core form Example
describe strengths present simple I work well in a team.
give a past example past simple I helped at a school event.
ask clearly question word + auxiliary Why do you want this job?
connect ideas because, so, but I enjoy teamwork because I like sharing ideas.
be polite could Could you repeat that, please?

Accuracy routine: Wähle pro Runde nur einen Schwerpunkt, zum Beispiel past simple oder question forms. Danach sprich erneut. Verständlichkeit bleibt wichtiger als möglichst viele Korrekturen auf einmal.

Writing to support speaking

Schreiben dient hier als Sprechhilfe, nicht als fertiges Vorleseskript.

  1. Write five keywords for an interview answer.
  2. Write a short, structured email asking for a fictional interview time.
  3. Write a four-sentence opinion with one reason and one example.
  4. After speaking, write one improved sentence from your feedback.

Keep your own text: Lass KI nicht den ganzen Text ersetzen. Vergleiche Vorschläge, entscheide selbst und markiere, was Du tatsächlich verbessern willst.

Feedback that helps

Good feedback is short and usable.

3-point feedback:

  1. Clarity: What was easy to understand?
  2. Language: Which phrase or word could be stronger?
  3. Accuracy: Which one mistake should be fixed first?

Then: Try again. Revision is part of speaking practice.

Fehleranalyse

Use a simple log after one speaking round.

I noticed … My example My next step
unclear idea I gave no reason. Add because + reason.
grammar problem Yesterday I help. Use past simple: helped.
missing word I stopped speaking. Paraphrase with simpler words.
pronunciation problem A key word was unclear. Slow down and stress the key word.

Do not correct everything. Choose the error that blocks meaning or repeats often.

Transfer: four short AI practice modes

Mode Prompt ending Your target
Job interview Ask me four short interview questions. answer + example
Mediation Give me one short German-to-English mediation task. key meaning, no full translation
Discussion Ask one discussion question and react to my opinion. opinion + reason + response
Presentation follow-up Ask two short questions after my mini-presentation. explain + clarify

Always add: Use English at E10-G level and give feedback after I speak.

Can-do-Check

Mark what is true for you: yes / partly / not yet.

  1. I understand the situation before I answer.
  2. I can speak for about 30–60 seconds with a clear structure.
  3. I can give a reason or example.
  4. I can ask for repetition or clarification.
  5. I can answer a simple follow-up question.
  6. I can mediate the key meaning without full translation.
  7. I can use feedback to improve one point.
  8. I use only fictional data in AI practice.
  9. I check AI suggestions instead of copying them.
  10. I focus on understandable English, not accent-free English.
