E10 G - Give a structured English presentation
E10 G - Give a structured English presentation
Einleitung
Mini-description: Give a short, clear English presentation from keywords. Use an introduction, clear main points, at least one example and an ending. Do not read a full script.
Target: about 60 seconds. Clear English is more important than a perfect accent. You may pause, look at your notes and restart a sentence.

Media start: Look at the picture. What helps the audience follow the speaker? Think of three ideas before you read on.
This course is for English as a first foreign language, Class 10, G level, Baden-Württemberg. The core task matches the curriculum focus on presenting a familiar topic with media support and notes. See: Bildungsplan Baden-Württemberg – Englisch als erste Fremdsprache, Klasse 10.
Learning path
English first → understand → respond → analyse → communicate → feedback → revise → transfer
You first notice how a short presentation works. Then you respond with simple ideas, analyse useful structure and language, prepare your own talk, get feedback, revise it and use the same strategy in a new situation.
I can goals
| I can ... | Core target |
|---|---|
| organise a short talk | introduction → main points → example → ending |
| speak from notes | keywords, not a full script |
| guide my audience | use simple signposts |
| give a reason or example | because / for example |
| speak clearly | moderate pace, useful pauses, understandable pronunciation |
| react to a simple question | ask for repetition if needed |
Activate what you know
Before you start, answer in short English phrases:
- Presentation topic: What topic could you explain for one minute?
- Audience: Who could listen to you?
- Keywords: Which five words would help you remember your ideas?
- Good speaking: What makes a speaker easy to understand?
No full sentences are required yet.
Input: Build a one-minute presentation

A clear short presentation needs a visible route. For this course, use four parts:
| Part | Job | Useful language |
|---|---|---|
| Introduction | name the topic | Today I want to talk about ... |
| Main points | give two key ideas | First, ... / My second point is ... |
| Example | make one idea concrete | For example, ... |
| Ending | finish clearly | Finally, ... / Thank you for listening. |
Core rule: One idea at a time. Short sentences are fine.
A keyword card, not a script
Topic: school clubs
| Part | Notes only |
|---|---|
| Introduction | school clubs – useful – two ideas |
| Main point 1 | music club – Tuesday – friends |
| Example | school concert – last year |
| Main point 2 | sports club – teamwork – fun |
| Ending | try one club – thank audience |
Use this format for your own talk. Do not write every sentence you want to say.
Listening and viewing 1: Notice the structure
Watch a short section first. Do not try to understand every word.
First viewing – gist: Which part is about starting a presentation?
Second viewing – detail: Write down two useful phrases you hear.
Third step – respond: Choose only one phrase that you want to use yourself.
Input can contain more language than you need to produce. You do not have to copy every phrase from the video.
Listening and viewing 2: Signposting
Use a teacher-selected short section, for example the part about introductions or signposting. Listen once for the main idea and a second time for one useful expression.
Focus question: How does the speaker show that a new part begins?
Listening and viewing 3: More than one voice
This British Council video includes several speakers. Use only a short selected section.
Listening support: First listen without notes. Then listen again and tick what you notice: clear opening, example, signpost, question, ending.
You may replay the section. Repetition is part of learning.
Reading: Find the presentation map
Read these notes, not a full model script:
Topic: A useful app for school
| Step | Keyword notes |
|---|---|
| Introduction | app – homework – useful |
| Point 1 | reminders – deadlines |
| Example | maths test – alert one day before |
| Point 2 | simple – free basic version |
| Ending | useful for planning |
Reading task: Which note belongs to the example? Which two notes are the main points? Explain your answer with short English phrases.
Context vocabulary
Learn words inside presentation situations.
| Word | Meaning in this course | Example |
|---|---|---|
| audience | people who listen | Look at your audience. |
| main point | important idea | My first main point is ... |
| example | concrete support | For example, ... |
| signpost | phrase that shows the next step | First, ... Finally, ... |
| keyword | short note that helps you remember | Write keywords, not a script. |
| slide | visual support | Use one simple slide if useful. |
Do not learn a long isolated word list. Use the words while planning and speaking.
Pronunciation and delivery
Your goal is understandable speech, not accent-free speech.
| Focus | Try this |
|---|---|
| stress | stress the important word in a sentence |
| pace | speak a little slower than in casual conversation |
| pause | pause after First, For example and Finally |
| endings | finish words clearly |
| eye contact | look up after a keyword |
Practice these chunks slowly, then at normal speed: Today I want to talk about ... – For example, ... – Finally, ...
Eye contact and body language

A fixed speaker may only look at part of an audience. Turn your head naturally and look at different listeners. Keep gestures simple. You do not need dramatic movement.
Micro-task: Say one sentence, look at your note, then look up before the next sentence.
Functional grammar
Only use grammar that helps the task.
| Function | Useful pattern | Example |
|---|---|---|
| name the topic | I want to talk about + noun | I want to talk about school clubs. |
| give a reason | idea + because + reason | I like the club because it is friendly. |
| give an example | For example + sentence | For example, we meet every Tuesday. |
| order ideas | First / Then / Finally | First, I will explain the idea. |
| give an opinion | I think + sentence | I think the app is useful. |
Accuracy step 1: correct word order in your opening.
Accuracy step 2: use one clear tense and keep it consistent.
Accuracy step 3: check small words such as to, a and the only after your ideas are clear.
Speaking: Core task
Prepare a one-minute presentation about a familiar topic. Possible topics: a hobby, a school activity, a useful app, a place you know, a simple project or an everyday problem with a solution.
Use:
| Required | Support |
|---|---|
| one introduction | Today I want to talk about ... |
| two main points | First, ... / My second point is ... |
| one example | For example, ... |
| one ending | Finally, ... / Thank you for listening. |
| keyword notes | about 5–10 keywords in total |
Do not read a complete script. If you lose a word, describe it with easier words or move on.
Asking and answering

After the presentation, a listener may ask one simple question.
Useful listener phrases: Could you repeat that, please? – What do you mean by ...? – Can you give an example?
Useful speaker phrases: Yes. – I mean ... – For example, ... – Sorry, could you repeat the question?
It is fine to ask for repetition.
Writing: Plan before you speak
Writing supports speaking, but the final product is not a written speech.
Use this planning frame:
| Section | Your notes |
|---|---|
| Topic | ... |
| Main point 1 | ... |
| Example | ... |
| Main point 2 | ... |
| Ending | ... |
Then reduce every full sentence to keywords.
Mediation: optional bridge task
Read a short German source about a familiar topic. Do not translate sentence by sentence. Tell an English-speaking classmate only the information needed for a one-minute presentation.
Goal: select → simplify → explain in English.
This is an optional task. Receptive understanding is not automatically required as full productive language.
Media support

A visual should help the audience understand. One photo, one simple chart or one object can be enough.
Do: large image, short title, one key fact.
Avoid: full paragraphs on slides that you then read aloud.
Feedback → revise
Use two stars and one next step:
| Check | Feedback stem |
|---|---|
| Structure | I could follow your talk because ... |
| Example | Your example was clear because ... |
| Delivery | I understood you well when ... |
| Next step | Next time, try ... |
Feedback should be specific and kind. Do not correct every language error at once.
Error analysis
| First try | Better version | Focus |
|---|---|---|
| Today I want talk about ... | Today I want to talk about ... | infinitive with to |
| My first point are ... | My first point is ... | subject and verb |
| For example my club meet Tuesday. | For example, my club meets on Tuesday. | verb ending and time phrase |
| Finally I say my opinion. | Finally, I think ... | natural presentation phrase |
Choose one error type for your next practice round. Keep the rest of your talk communicative.
Revise and try again
Revise only three things:
- Structure: Is every part easy to find?
- Keywords: Can you remove full sentences from your notes?
- Clarity: Where should you pause or speak more slowly?
Then give the same presentation again. A second attempt should be clearer, not necessarily longer.
Privacy and responsible AI use
Practice recordings are voluntary and should stay private unless you actively choose otherwise. No task requires an upload.
Do not send personal recordings, names or private data to an external AI service.
If you use AI to brainstorm or check language, verify facts and sources. Keep your own ideas and wording. Do not replace your own text with an unchecked generated script.
If a task uses a profile or application example, use fictional data only.
Avoid cultural stereotypes. Describe people and places with specific facts, not clichés.
Transfer
Use the same structure in a new situation: explain a project result, introduce a hobby, report one internship experience, present a simple problem and solution, or give a short opinion with one reason and one example.
The structure stays stable even when the topic changes.
