E6 M - Talk about experiences and future plans

Mini-Beschreibung: In this aiMOOC you talk about simple experiences and future plans. You use the present perfect simple for experiences and familiar future patterns with going to and will. The course is for English, Klasse 6, M-Niveau, Baden-Württemberg. Try English first. German help is available when you need it.

Look at the picture. What can you see? What might the child do next? Say two short sentences.

Media starter: Listen for the question Have you ever ...? You do not need to understand every word. Catch familiar words and examples.

Einleitung

You already know how to talk about many everyday activities. Now you learn to connect two ideas:

  1. Experiences: things you have done or have not done in your life so far.
  2. Future plans: things you are going to do or think you will do.

Course route: Notice → understand → practise → use → feedback → use again.

Deutsch-Hilfe: Du sprichst über Erfahrungen und Pläne. Versuche Aufgaben zuerst auf Englisch. Öffne die Hilfe nur, wenn Du sie brauchst. Es geht um verständliche Kommunikation, nicht um perfekte Akzentfreiheit.

I can ... / Meine Ziele

At the end, you can say:

  1. I can ask about experiences. – Have you ever visited a museum?
  2. I can answer about experiences. – Yes, I have. / No, I haven't.
  3. I can add one simple detail. – I have visited a science museum. It was exciting.
  4. I can talk about a plan. – I'm going to visit my cousin this weekend.
  5. I can talk about a future idea. – I think I'll try kayaking one day.
  6. I can write a short message about experiences and plans.
  7. I can listen for key information even when I do not understand every word.

Vorwissen-Check: What can you already do?

Try English first. Say or write one answer for each prompt.

  1. Name three free-time activities in English.
  2. Ask a partner one question with Have you ever ...?
  3. Complete: I have ...
  4. Complete: This weekend, I'm going to ...
  5. Complete: I think I'll ...

Hint: Use words you already know: visit, play, travel, try, see, ride, camp.

Deutsch-Hilfe: Schreibe oder sage kurze Sätze. Du musst noch nicht alle Formen sicher können.

Notice: experiences around us

Look at the three pictures. Which sentences could fit?

  1. I have visited a museum.
  2. I have tried cycling with friends.
  3. I have been on a hike.
  4. I haven't tried that yet.

Speak: Choose one picture. Say: I have ... or I haven't ...

Language focus: experiences

For simple life experiences, use a short pattern:

I / You / We / They + have + past participle

He / She + has + past participle

Examples:

  1. I have visited a museum.
  2. We have tried kayaking.
  3. She has seen a big castle.
  4. I haven't tried camping.
  5. Have you ever visited London?
  6. Yes, I have. / No, I haven't.

Useful forms for this course:

Verb Useful experience form Example
visit visited I have visited a museum.
try tried We have tried kayaking.
play played She has played basketball.
see seen I have seen a castle.
be been He has been on a hike.

Notice: You use these forms to talk about experience. You do not need a long grammar explanation to start speaking.

Pronunciation: speak clearly

Say the chunks slowly, then naturally:

  1. Have you ever ...?
  2. Yes, I have.
  3. No, I haven't.
  4. I've visited ...
  5. She's tried ...

Focus on the important words. It is fine to have an accent. Your goal is clear and understandable English.

Mini rhythm: Have you EVER tried KAYaking? – YES, I HAVE.

Deutsch-Hilfe: Betone die wichtigen Wörter. Sprich lieber verständlich und ruhig als zu schnell.

Understand: a short dialogue

Mia: Have you ever been on a camping trip?

Leo: Yes, I have. I have camped with my family.

Mia: Cool! Have you ever tried kayaking?

Leo: No, I haven't, but I'd like to try it.

Mia: I'm going to go kayaking with my cousin in the summer.

Leo: Nice! I think I'll try it one day, too.

Quick understanding: Answer in short English.

  1. Has Leo been camping?
  2. Has Leo tried kayaking?
  3. What is Mia going to do in the summer?
  4. What does Leo think he will try one day?

Hint: Find the words camping, kayaking, going to and I'll.

Deutsch-Hilfe: Suche gezielt nach den vier Schlüsselwörtern. Du musst nicht jedes Wort übersetzen.

Example: Has Leo been camping? – Yes, he has.

Solution: 1 Yes, he has. 2 No, he hasn't. 3 She is going to go kayaking with her cousin. 4 He thinks he'll try kayaking.

Vocabulary in context

English Simple meaning Example
experience something you have done That was a great experience.
trip a short journey We are going on a trip.
luggage bags for a journey My luggage is ready.
museum a place with interesting objects I have visited a museum.
hike a long walk outdoors We have been on a hike.
kayaking moving on water in a kayak I want to try kayaking.
plan something you want to do My plan is simple.
next weekend the weekend after this one I'm going to visit my cousin next weekend.

Use the words: Tell a partner one true sentence and one invented sentence. Your partner guesses which sentence is true.

Practise: future plans

You already know useful future patterns. Use them as speaking chunks.

  1. I'm going to ... – I'm going to visit my grandparents.
  2. We're going to ... – We're going to go on a day trip.
  3. I think I'll ... – I think I'll try a new sport.
  4. Maybe I'll ... – Maybe I'll visit a museum.
  5. I'll ... – I'll bring my camera.

Do not stop to build a big grammar table. Use the patterns to communicate.

Listening mission: Listen for future phrases. Write down three short chunks you hear or recognise. Then make one new sentence of your own.

Deutsch-Hilfe: Höre gezielt auf bekannte Zukunftsbausteine. Du musst nicht alles verstehen und sollst keine vollständige Übersetzung anfertigen.

Use: image talk

Imagine the people are a fictional family called the Parkers.

Fictional information: Sam has visited two museums. Alex has been on a plane. Kim hasn't tried kayaking. The family is going to visit Edinburgh. Sam thinks he'll take lots of photos.

Your task: Ask and answer three questions.

Example: Have you ever been on a plane? – Yes, I have.

Then add a plan: I'm going to visit ... / I think I'll ...

Reading: Maya's message

Hi Noor,

I've had a busy year. I have visited a science museum, tried climbing and been on a long hike with my class. I haven't tried kayaking yet. Next month, my family is going to spend a weekend near a lake. I'm going to take my trainers and a warm jacket. Maybe I'll try kayaking there. I think it'll be fun. What have you tried this year? What are you going to do next month?

See you, Maya

Reading strategy: First read for the big idea. Then read again for details.

  1. Find three experiences Maya has had.
  2. Find one experience she has not had.
  3. Find two future ideas.
  4. What question does Maya ask Noor?

Hint: Underline forms with have and circle future chunks.

Deutsch-Hilfe: Lies zuerst auf Sinn. Markiere danach nur die Stellen, die Du für die Antworten brauchst.

Solution: Maya has visited a science museum, tried climbing and been on a long hike. She hasn't tried kayaking. Her family is going to spend a weekend near a lake, and she may try kayaking. She asks about Noor's experiences and plans.

Speaking: Experience + plan

Work with a partner. Ask four questions.

  1. Have you ever visited a museum?
  2. Have you ever tried a new sport?
  3. Have you ever been on a long trip?
  4. Have you ever helped to plan a family day out?

Then talk about one future plan.

Useful frame: I have ... . I haven't ... yet. This weekend, I'm going to ... . Maybe I'll ... .

Follow-up questions: Really? / What was it like? / Who with? / What are you going to do there?

Privacy: You may invent information. You never have to share private experiences.

Short writing output

Write a short e-mail of about 60–80 words to a fictional exchange partner.

Your e-mail should include:

  1. two experiences with I have ...
  2. one experience with I haven't ...
  3. one plan with I'm going to ...
  4. one future idea with I think I'll ... or Maybe I'll ...
  5. one question to the reader

Hint: Use this order: greeting → experiences → future plan → question → goodbye.

Deutsch-Hilfe: Schreibe kurze verbundene Sätze. Nutze and, but, because oder so, wenn es passt.

Example: Hi Jamie, I have visited a castle and I have tried climbing. I haven't been kayaking yet. Next weekend, I'm going to visit my cousin, and maybe I'll ride my bike there. What have you tried this year? What are you going to do next weekend? See you, Robin

Solution check: Check five things: experience form, future chunk, clear word order, understandable spelling, one question.

Sprachmittlung: help a visitor

A fictional German friend says: „Ich war noch nie in einem Science Museum. Am Samstag will ich eins besuchen. Vielleicht probiere ich dort ein Experiment aus.“

Tell an English-speaking visitor the important information in simple English. Do not translate every word.

Hint: Start with: My friend hasn't ... yet. On Saturday, ...

Example solution: My friend hasn't visited a science museum yet. On Saturday, they are going to visit one. Maybe they'll try an experiment there.

Feedback: make your English clearer

Use this friendly feedback routine after speaking or writing:

  1. Two stars: Name two things that were clear or useful.
  2. One step: Choose one small point to improve.
  3. Try again: Say or write the sentence one more time.

Focus only on selected points:

  1. Is have/has present in the experience sentence?
  2. Is the past participle understandable?
  3. Is the future chunk complete?
  4. Can the listener understand the main message?

AI rule: If you use an AI tool in another learning context, check its answer and rewrite ideas in your own words. Do not send private data, recordings or school files to external AI services without permission.

Recording rule: Audio recordings are optional. Keep them private unless your teacher gives a safe school-approved way to share them. No unasked uploads.

Use again: 30-second mini talk

Prepare a short talk with four connected sentences:

I've ... . I haven't ... yet. Next weekend, I'm going to ... . Maybe I'll ... .

Speak for about 30 seconds. Then get one piece of feedback and try again.

Can-do check

Rate yourself: Yes / Almost / Not yet.

  1. I can ask Have you ever ...?
  2. I can give a short answer.
  3. I can say two experiences.
  4. I can say one thing I haven't done.
  5. I can use a familiar future chunk.
  6. I can ask a follow-up question.
  7. I can write a short understandable e-mail.
  8. I can improve one sentence after feedback.

Next step: If many answers are Almost or Not yet, repeat the dialogue, the vocabulary task and the 30-second mini talk.
