Notice: The speakers compare one ride with a group of rides.

The main pattern

Important: We usually use the before a superlative when we mean the top item in a group.

Two useful irregular forms

good → the best
bad → the worst

These are common. Learn them as complete chunks.

Pronunciation: make the ending clear

Listen to the word superlative.

Then say these chunks slowly and clearly:

the happi-est

You do not need a perfect accent. Aim for clear words and an audible ending.

Work with a partner. Use familiar topics such as school subjects, games, animals, rooms or free-time activities.

Use at least one -est form and one most form.

Our class survey

Twenty fictional students answered three questions. Most students chose the library as the quietest place at school. They chose the sports hall as the biggest room. The school garden was the most relaxing place for many students. Mia wrote: “The library is the best place for reading because I can concentrate there.”
