This course is for English as a first foreign language, class 6, M level, Baden-Württemberg. Cities in the UK are different from one another. Bridgemere is fictional and is only a practice setting.

Learning path: Notice → understand → practise → use → feedback → use again.

All map names, routes and timetable times in the tasks are fictional. Recordings are voluntary and should stay private. Do not upload personal recordings or schoolwork unless your teacher asks you to. Do not send course material to external AI tools without permission. If AI is allowed, check the result and write the final answer in your own words.

Meeting problem: You are at the station. Your group meets at the museum at 09:42. Which bus can you take if you want to arrive before the meeting?

Hint: Look at the Museum row. Find a time before 09:42.

Solution: Take Bus B at 09:30. It arrives at the museum at 09:40.

Practise: a short dialogue

Tourist: Excuse me. How do I get to the museum?
Local: Go straight on along Station Road. Turn left into King Street.
Tourist: Sorry, left into King Street?
Local: Yes. Go past the station entrance. The museum is on your left.
Tourist: Is it far?
Local: No. It is about five minutes from here.
Tourist: Thanks a lot!
Local: You’re welcome.

Notice the communication: The tourist asks politely, checks one detail and thanks the local. The local uses short route steps.

Pronunciation: clear is the goal

Say the chunks slowly, then at normal speed:

1. EXcuse me.
2. Go STRAIGHT on.
3. Turn LEFT.
4. Turn RIGHT.
5. It’s OPposite the museum.

Focus: Make the key word clear. You do not need to sound like a native speaker. Being understandable is more important than copying an accent.

Hint: Point left or right while you speak. Movement helps you remember the phrase.

Speaking: ask, check, respond

Work with a partner.

Student A: Start at the café. Ask for the way to the station.
Student B: Use the map. Give 3–4 short route steps.
Student A: Ask one checking question: Sorry, do I turn left at the town square?
Student B: Answer and correct the route if needed.

Then swap roles.

Optional private recording: You may record one route on your own device to listen to yourself. Do not upload it. Delete it when you no longer need it.

Hi Sam,
Let’s meet at the town square at 10:15. I’m coming from the station. I’ll take Bus 6 and get off at Bus Stop A. The town square is next to the bus stop. If I’m late, wait by the library side of the square.

Solution: They meet at the town square at 10:15. Mia takes Bus 6 and gets off at Bus Stop A. Sam should wait by the library side of the square.

Writing: a short city message

Write 4–6 connected sentences to a friend. Include:

1. a meeting place
2. a meeting time
3. one bus or walking route
4. at least two direction phrases

Example start: Hi Alex, let’s meet at the museum at 11:00. From the station, …

Hint: Use this order: meeting → start point → route → final place.

Explain the route in simple English. Do not translate every German word. Give only the information the visitor needs.

Language focus: grammar for communication

Use the language because it helps you solve the task:

1. Imperatives: Go straight on. Turn left. Get off at the museum.
2. Questions: Where is the museum? How do I get to the park? Is it far?
3. Place phrases: next to, opposite, between, on your left/right.
4. Polite language: Excuse me. Can you help me, please? Thanks a lot.

You do not need advanced tense grammar for this course. The focus is on clear directions and useful questions.

After one speaking or writing task, check:

1. Did I name the start and destination?
2. Did I put the steps in a clear order?
3. Did I use left/right correctly?
4. Did I use one polite phrase?
5. Can another person follow my route?

Then improve one thing and do the route again.
