E7 G - A simple job profile
E7 G - A simple job profile
Mini description: Understand a short English job profile. Find the workplace, tasks and skills. Then make your own simple profile.
Look first. What can you see? A shop? A workplace? People at work?
Try first: Watch about one minute. Listen for job words and places. Do not translate every word.
I can
After this aiMOOC, you can say:
- I can find a workplace.
- I can find two or three tasks.
- I can find simple skills.
- I can talk about a job in short sentences.
- I can write a short job profile.
Before you start
You already know some job words. Look at the pictures and say one word or one short sentence.

Try: “A baker works in a …”

Try: “A mechanic works in a …”
Hint 1: bakery – garage – supermarket
German help if needed: workplace = Arbeitsort.
Notice: A simple job profile
This profile is fictional. It is not about a real person.
Name: Jamie
Job: shop assistant
Workplace: Green Street Supermarket
Tasks: I help customers. I put food on shelves. I work at the checkout.
Skills: I am friendly and careful. I am good with numbers.
Key idea: A job profile answers three questions:
- Where does the person work?
- What does the person do?
- What can the person do well?
Quick check
Where does Jamie work?
Think first. Then check: Jamie works in a supermarket.
Name one task.
Possible answer: Jamie helps customers.
Name one skill.
Possible answer: Jamie is careful.
Listening and Viewing
First listening: Watch a short part. Tick mentally: Do you hear a job and a workplace?
Second listening: Listen again. Say one pair, for example: “baker – bakery”.
Do not read a transcript first. Try with sound and pictures.
Help after listening: The video practises simple job and workplace pairs. Listen for short patterns such as “Where do you work?” and a place of work.
Direct feedback: If you can match one job with one workplace, you have the main idea. Watch again for one more pair.
Reading
Read the short profile once without a dictionary.
Amina is a baker. She works in a bakery. She makes bread and cakes. She talks to customers. She is careful and friendly.
Try: Find one workplace, two tasks and two skills.
Hint 1: workplace = a place.
Hint 2: tasks are actions.
German help if needed: skills = Dinge, die jemand gut kann oder Eigenschaften, die bei der Arbeit helfen.
Check: workplace = bakery; tasks = makes bread and cakes, talks to customers; skills = careful, friendly.

Pronunciation
Say the words slowly, then in a short sentence:
- workplace – “This is my workplace.”
- customer – “I help a customer.”
- careful – “I am careful.”
Focus: Speak clearly. You do not need a perfect accent. Verständlichkeit ist wichtiger als Akzentfreiheit.
Private practice: You can record yourself only if you want to. Keep recordings private unless you choose to share them.
Functional grammar
Use the simple present for regular job tasks.
I work in a bakery.
I help customers.
Use can for a simple skill.
I can use a checkout.
I can repair bikes.
Pattern: I + verb. / I can + verb.
Try: Make two sentences about one job.
Feedback: After can, use the base verb: “I can help”, not “I can helps”.
Speaking
Work with a partner or speak quietly to yourself.
Model:
A: What is your job?
B: I am a shop assistant.
A: Where do you work?
B: I work in a supermarket.
A: What do you do?
B: I help customers.
A: What are your skills?
B: I am friendly and careful.
Word bank: bakery – garage – supermarket – help – make – repair – friendly – careful
Mini-transfer: Change the job and the workplace. Keep the sentence pattern.
Writing
Write 4–5 short sentences. Use this frame:
I am a … . I work in a … . I … . I … . I am … .
Optional extra: “I can … .”
Check your text:
- Is the workplace clear?
- Are there two tasks?
- Is there one skill?
- Are the sentences short and clear?
AI note: If you use an AI tool, check that the English is still your level and your meaning. Do not let AI replace your own text. Do not upload private voice recordings or personal data without permission.
Mediation
Your German-speaking friend asks about a fictional job profile. Give only the key information in simple English.
Info: Sam arbeitet in einer Fahrradwerkstatt. Sam repariert Fahrräder und spricht mit Kundinnen und Kunden. Sam ist sorgfältig.
Start: “Sam works in …”
Possible answer: Sam works in a bike shop. Sam repairs bikes and talks to customers. Sam is careful.
Mini-transfer

Look at the picture. Make a fictional profile with only four facts:
- job
- workplace
- one task
- one skill
Start: “This person is a mechanic. …”
Self-check: Can do
| Can-do statement | Yes | Not yet |
|---|---|---|
| I can find the workplace. | □ | □ |
| I can find two tasks. | □ | □ |
| I can find one skill. | □ | □ |
| I can speak in short job sentences. | □ | □ |
