E6 G - Dates, times and special days
Einleitung
E6 G - Dates, times and special days helps you talk about calendars, events and times in simple English. You learn with short texts, pictures, listening, speaking and small writing tasks.

Mini goal: Festige Datum, Uhrzeit und Kalenderwortschatz in Verbindung mit Festen und Veranstaltungen.
Level: English as your first foreign language, class 6, G-level, Baden-Württemberg.
Important: Try English first. Use German only when you need help. All dates and school events in the tasks are fictional. No upload is needed. If you record your voice, keep the recording private unless your teacher and you decide otherwise.
Watch 1–2 minutes first. What words do you hear: day, month, date, time?
I can ...
After this course, you can say:
- I can ask for and say a date.
- I can ask for and say the time.
- I can understand a simple event card.
- I can write a short message about an event.
- I can say important calendar words clearly enough to be understood.
Help ladder
1 Try English first → 2 Hint → 3 German help → 4 Example → 5 Solution.
Use the next step only if you need it.
Hint: Look for day, date, month and time.
Deutsch: Suche zuerst nach Wochentag, Datum, Monat und Uhrzeit.
Example: Friday – 14 May – 5:30.
Solution: Check your answer only after you try.
Before you start: quick check
Can you answer these three questions without help?
What day is it today? — What month is it? — What time is it?
If one question is difficult, that is okay. You will practise it now.
Notice: calendar words

Look at the picture. The months come again every year.
| Calendar words | English | Quick German help |
|---|---|---|
| Days | Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday | Wochentage |
| Months 1 | January, February, March, April, May, June | Monate 1 |
| Months 2 | July, August, September, October, November, December | Monate 2 |
| Useful words | today, tomorrow, weekend, date, event | heute, morgen, Wochenende, Datum, Veranstaltung |
Say it: “My favourite month is …” You do not need to explain why.
Dates: first, second, third ...
For dates, English often uses ordinal numbers.
| Written | Say |
|---|---|
| 1st | first |
| 2nd | second |
| 3rd | third |
| 4th | fourth |
| 5th | fifth |
| 12th | twelfth |
| 20th | twentieth |
| 21st | twenty-first |
| 31st | thirty-first |
Model: 14 May → the fourteenth of May
Question: When is the class party?
Answer: It is on the fourteenth of May.
Time: What time is it?

| Time | Say |
|---|---|
| 5:00 | five o'clock |
| 5:15 | quarter past five |
| 5:30 | half past five |
| 5:45 | quarter to six |
Question: What time does it start?
Answer: It starts at half past five.
Watch and pause. Say the time before the answer comes.
Three small words: on – at – in
Use them in real messages:
| Word | Use | Example |
|---|---|---|
| on | day or date | on Friday / on 14 May |
| at | clock time | at 5:30 |
| in | month | in May |
Central error target: on + day/date, at + time, in + month.
Understand: special days and events

People celebrate different days. Not everybody celebrates the same days. You can talk about a birthday, a school show, a sports day, a family day or another day that is important to you.
Fictional event card
| Event | Day | Date | Time | Place |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Class party | Friday | 14 May | 5:30 | school hall |
Read it once. Then cover the table.
Try English first: When is the class party? What time does it start? Where is it?
Hint: Find Friday, 14 May, 5:30 and school hall.
Deutsch: Suche Wochentag, Datum, Uhrzeit und Ort.
Example: “It is on Friday.”
Solution: It is on Friday, 14 May. It starts at half past five. It is in the school hall.
Listening input: one speaker, two times
Ask your teacher or a partner to read this text slowly two times. Do not look at the text the first time if possible.
Listening text: “Hello! Our class party is on Friday, the fourteenth of May. It starts at half past five. Please meet at quarter past five at the school hall.”
Task: What is the event? What is the date? What time does it start? What time do students meet?
Hint: You need four short answers.
Deutsch: Du brauchst Veranstaltung, Datum, Startzeit und Treffzeit.
Solution: class party – 14 May – 5:30 – 5:15.
Picture input: New Year

Look and say: “I can see …” / “The special day is …”
You can use one word if a full sentence is hard.
Practise
Reading: three fictional events
| Event | Date | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Sports Day | 20 June | 9:00 |
| School Show | 3 July | 6:15 |
| Class Picnic | 11 July | 11:30 |
Answer in short English:
- When is Sports Day?
- What time is the School Show?
- Which event is on 11 July?
Help: on + date, at + time.
Solutions: Sports Day is on 20 June. The School Show is at quarter past six. The Class Picnic is on 11 July.
Pronunciation: clear is the goal
You do not need a perfect accent. You need to be easy to understand.
third: Put your tongue lightly between your teeth for the first sound.
thirteenth: Say it slowly in parts. Stress the second part.
May / June / July: Say each month once. Then say: “in May – in June – in July”.
Private option: You may record one sentence for yourself and listen again. Do not upload it.
Use the video for short repetition. Then make your own example.
Speak: mini dialogue
Work with a partner.
A: When is the school show?
B: It is on the third of July.
A: What time does it start?
B: It starts at quarter past six.
Now change the event, date and time.
Sentence starters: When is …? / What time …? / It is on … / It starts at …
Write: a short event message
Write 3–4 short lines. Use fictional information.
Word bank: event – on – at – in – starts – meet – school hall – park.
Starter: “Hi! Our … is on … It starts at … Meet me at …”
Checklist: Did you use on for the date? Did you use at for the time? Is the message easy to understand?
Sprachmittlung: quick German help to English
Your friend reads: “Das Schulfest ist am 8. Juni um 16 Uhr.”
Say the key information in English. You do not need to translate every word.
Hint: event + date + time.
Example: “The school event is …”
Solution: “The school event is on 8 June at four o'clock.”
Use: plan a mini calendar

Make a small calendar with three fictional events. Give each event a date and a time.
Then ask a partner two questions:
- When is …?
- What time does it start?
Use your own words. Do not copy an AI answer as your final answer. If AI is used in class with teacher permission, check the result and write the final sentence yourself.
