Notting Hill Carnival is a large street festival in west London. It takes place in August. Caribbean communities in London have played an important role in its history and culture. Visitors can see colourful costumes, parades and sound systems and can hear different kinds of music. An important outdoor community festival in Notting Hill took place in 1966. Today, the carnival is part of London's cultural life.
