Remember: AI can give you a sentence. You decide if the English is clear, correct and useful.

Safe learning: All names and situations in this course are fictional. You do not need to open an external AI tool. You do not need to upload texts, photos or recordings. Speaking recordings are optional and should stay private or in your school system.

Einstieg: Can you trust every AI sentence?

Read these two sentences:

A: Yesterday I went to the swimming pool with my cousin.

B: Yesterday I proceeded to the aquatic recreation facility with my relative.

Which sentence is easier to understand? Which one would you use in class?

Try English first: Say one reason in English.

Hint: Think about easy words and natural meaning.

Example: “Sentence A is easier because I know all the words.”

Solution: Sentence A is the better classroom sentence here. Sentence B is not automatically wrong, but it uses unnecessarily difficult words.

The four checks

Use the same four questions every time:

Check	Ask yourself	Quick action
1 Words	Do I know the important words? Are they needlessly difficult?	Use a dictionary. Choose a simpler word if possible.
2 Grammar	Do I know this grammar from class? Does it look right?	Compare with a rule or example you know.
3 Meaning	Does the sentence make sense in the situation?	Read the whole sentence, not only single words.
4 Errors	Is there a small mistake in spelling, word form or sentence form?	Correct only what you can explain.

Rule: Do not trust a sentence only because it sounds clever. Do not reject a sentence only because it is new. Check it.

Understand: Use a dictionary well

A dictionary is not only for translation. Check the meaning in context, a short example and, if useful, the word class.

Mini-task: Look up one word from a class text. Which meaning fits your sentence?

Try English first: “In this sentence, ... means ...”

Hint: Read the example sentence in the dictionary.

Example: “light” can describe something that is not heavy, but it can also mean brightness.

Solution idea: The correct meaning depends on the sentence.

Practise: Make difficult English clear

AI sentence: The canine ambulated rapidly towards the residential structure.

Step 1: Underline words you would not normally use.

Step 2: Check them in a dictionary.

Step 3: Keep the meaning, but use easier English.

Possible solution: The dog walked quickly to the house.

Now try:

AI sentence: The student commenced the consumption of her midday meal.

Hint: student = okay; commenced = started; consumption = eating; midday meal = lunch.

Practise: Check grammar you know

Do not learn new difficult grammar just because an AI sentence uses it. Use grammar you already know from class.

AI sentence: My brother have got a new bike.

Hint: Look at the subject: my brother.

Example: She has got a blue bag.

Solution: My brother has got a new bike.

AI sentence: We play football yesterday.

Hint: “yesterday” points to a finished time in the past.

Solution: We played football yesterday.

Practise: Check meaning

A sentence can be grammatically possible but still be strange in its situation.

AI sentence: The sandwich is thirsty.

Try English first: Why is it strange?

Hint: Who or what can normally be thirsty?

Deutsch-Hilfe: Prüfe die Bedeutung, nicht nur die Grammatik.

Possible solution: I am thirsty, so I have a drink with my sandwich.

Transfer: Write one funny sentence with correct grammar but impossible meaning. Swap it with a partner and explain the problem.

Listen first: What is the lesson about?

Listen again: Choose two words from your current English unit. Mark the part you stress when you say each word.

Try English first: Say each word in a short sentence.

Hint: Clear stress can help listeners understand you.

Private option: Say the words to a partner. If you record yourself, do it only voluntarily and keep the recording private.

Speaking: Explain your check

Choose one AI sentence from this course. Speak for about 30–45 seconds.

Use this simple path:

Reading: AI message to a school club

Read this fictional message:

Hi everyone,
Our school game club meets on Thursday at 3:30. We will play board games and talk about new ideas. Please bring one game if you can. The gathering will subsequently commence in the educational institution's recreational chamber. See you there!

Task: The first three sentences are clear. Check the last long sentence. Find words that are unnecessarily difficult.

Hint: gathering, subsequently, commence, educational institution, recreational chamber.

Writing: Your clear version

Write a short text of 4–6 connected sentences about a fictional school afternoon. Start with your own ideas. Then imagine that an AI tool gave you one sentence that is too difficult or wrong.

Your text should:

include one clear opening sentence,
include one corrected sentence,
use words you understand,
use grammar you have learned,
make sense from start to finish.

Try English first: Write without translating every sentence from German.

Hint: Use your dictionary only for key words.

Explain the idea in simple English. You do not need to translate every German word.

Hint: Use: check – words – grammar – meaning – mistakes.

Possible answer: “AI sentences can be useful, but I check them first. I look at the words, grammar and meaning. Then I correct mistakes and write my own clear sentence.”

Feedback: Two good points and one fix

Work with a partner. Read the partner's rewritten sentence.

Say:

one thing that is clear,
one thing that fits the task,
one change that could make it better.

Useful language: “This is clear because ...” / “This word fits well.” / “Maybe change ... to ...”

Important: Explain your suggestion. Do not change a sentence only because it sounds more impressive.

On Saturday, Leo visits his grandparents. He is usually enjoying lunch with them. After lunch, the automobile proceeds rapidly to the zoological facility. Leo sees penguins and takes photos.

Find:

one grammar problem,
two unnecessarily difficult words or phrases,
one clear sentence that does not need a change.

Hint: Think about a routine, “car”, and “zoo”.
