Going to: talk about your plan

Use a simple chunk:

I am going to + verb.

I'm going to meet Leo. We're going to play football. She's going to visit her cousin.

Try English first: Make three sentences about your weekend.

Hint: I'm going to ... / We're going to ...

German help: Für einen geplanten nächsten Schritt kannst Du going to verwenden.

Example: I'm going to ride my bike on Saturday.

Possible solution: I'm going to meet a friend on Sunday afternoon.

Will: one useful function

Use will for a short promise or quick response.

I'll text you later. Don't worry. I'll help you.

You do not need a long grammar comparison here. Use the phrase when it helps you communicate.

Use: speaking

Work with a partner or speak to yourself.

Question: What are you going to do this weekend?

Try a short conversation with at least four turns.

A: What are you going to do on Saturday? B: I'm going to ... What about you? A: I'm going to ... B: Sounds good. I'll text you later.

Less support: Change the time, activity and meeting place. Add one question of your own.

Pronunciation challenge

Write your own message

Write 5–7 connected sentences to a fictional friend. Use fictional names and safe details.

Your message should include a greeting, two plans, at least two time phrases, one question and a short ending.

Try English first.

Hint: Hi ... On Saturday, I'm going to ... Later, I'm going to ... I'll ... Are you free ...? See you, ...

German help: Schreibe eine kurze Nachricht über kommende Pläne. Nenne Zeit und Aktivität. Stelle am Ende eine Frage.
