Grammar detective: five clues
Clue 1: to be

Mini-dialogue
A: Hi, I’m Sam. Are you new?
B: Yes, I am. I’m Alex.
A: Great. We are in Class 5.
Spot it: am, is, are are forms of to be.
| Subject | Form | Example |
|---|---|---|
| I | am | I am ready. |
| he / she / it | is | She is here. |
| you / we / they | are | They are ready. |
Use it: Say three short sentences: I am ... / My friend is ... / We are ...
Clue 2: have got

Mini-dialogue
Mia: Have you got a pencil?
Ben: Yes, I have. I’ve got two pencils.
Mia: Has Leo got an eraser?
Ben: Yes, he has.
Spot it: have got / has got can show possession.

He / she / it has got.
Listen – pause – repeat: Choose two short examples from the video. Say them once slowly and once at normal speed.
Clue 3: pronouns

Mia and Ben → we
Your turn: Replace the names: “Mia and Leo are here.” → “They are here.”
