Mini-Beschreibung: Give simple advice in everyday school and free-time situations. Use known chunks such as You can …, Why don’t you …?, Why don’t we …? and I think you should …. You work mostly in English. German help is there only when you need it.
Level: Klasse 6, Englisch als erste Fremdsprache, Baden-Württemberg, M-Niveau.
Einleitung
A friend has a small problem. What can you say? In this aiMOOC you notice useful chunks, understand them, practise them, use them, get feedback and use them again.

Try English first.

Situation A
Sam: “I can’t find my school bag.”
Mia: “You can check the classroom.”
Sam: “Good idea. Thanks!”
Notice: Mia does not give an order. She gives a helpful idea.
Listening task: Watch a short part of the video. Listen for What’s the matter?, You should … and That’s a good idea. You do not need to understand every word.

Grammar in use: After can and should, use the basic verb: can ask, should tell. Keep the whole chunk together.
Reacting to advice
- That’s a good idea.
- Thanks. I’ll try that.
- Maybe.
- I’m not sure.
- Can you help me?
Use a friendly voice. Advice should help, not sound bossy.
Understand: A short dialogue
At school
Noah: “I’m nervous about my English presentation.”
Lina: “You can practise with me.”
Noah: “That helps. But I speak too fast.”
Lina: “Why don’t you make a short pause after each sentence?”
Noah: “That’s a good idea.”
Lina: “And maybe you can write three key words on a small card.”
Noah: “Thanks. Let’s practise now.”

Solution: Noah is nervous about his English presentation. Lina says he can practise with her. He can write three key words on a small card.
Practise: Match problems and ideas
Read the five fictional problems. Give one short suggestion for each.
- “I’m hungry, but lunch is in ten minutes.”
- “I can’t find my pencil.”
- “I don’t understand task 4.”
- “I’m late for football practice.”
- “My friend is sad.”
Try English first.
Hint: Start with You can … or Why don’t you …?
Deutsch-Hilfe: Wähle eine einfache, realistische Idee. Du musst nicht die eine perfekte Lösung finden.
Example: “I can’t find my pencil.” → “You can ask your partner.”
Possible solutions: Wait for lunch. Ask a partner for a pencil. Ask the teacher about task 4. Tell your coach you are late. Talk to your friend.
Listen again
Listen for one useful chunk. Pause the video. Repeat the chunk once or twice. Then use it with a new problem from this page.
Privacy: Recording yourself is optional. If you make a recording, you can keep it private on your device. Do not upload it unless your teacher asks and permissions are clear.
Pronunciation: Speak clearly
You do not need a “perfect” British or American accent. Clear speech is the goal.
Try these short rhythm groups:
- You CAN ask Mia.
- WHY don’t you CHECK your DESK?
- I THINK you should TELL the TEACHER.
- That’s a GOOD iDEA.
Say the sentence once slowly. Then say it again at a natural speed. Stress the important words.
Use: Speaking
Work with a partner.
Student A: Read one problem.
Student B: Give two ideas.
Student A: React and ask one follow-up question.
Then swap roles.

- “I don’t know what to write in my email.”

Hint: Use two different chunks.

Reading task: Which message is about a test? Which message suggests a vote? Find one chunk in each message.
Write: A short advice message
Write 4–6 connected sentences.
Your task: A fictional classmate writes: “I’m new in the class and I don’t know many people.”
Write a friendly reply.
Use:
- a greeting.
- one sentence that shows you understand the problem.
- two suggestions.
- one friendly ending.
Hint: Try You can …, Maybe you can … and Why don’t you …?

Sprachmittlung: Help someone understand
Your German-speaking classmate says: “Ich finde meinen Busausweis nicht und der Bus kommt gleich.”
Tell an English-speaking friend the problem and give one simple suggestion. Do not translate every word.
Hint: “The problem is … You can …”
Possible solution: “The problem is: Mia can’t find her bus card. You can help her look in her school bag.”
Feedback: One star and one step
Give your partner short feedback.
One star: Say one thing that worked well.
One step: Say one small next step.
Check:
- Was the advice easy to understand?
- Did the advice fit the problem?
- Did your partner use a useful chunk?
- Was the speech clear enough to understand?
Example: “Your advice fits the problem. Next time, speak a little more slowly.”
Use again: New problem, new advice
Choose a new problem and answer without reading the examples.
- “My phone battery is low and I need to call home.”
- “I forgot the room number for music.”
- “I can’t choose a book.”
- “I feel tired before homework.”
Give two different suggestions. React to one suggestion from a partner.
Safety, media and AI
- Use fictional names and situations in class tasks.
- Recordings are voluntary and can stay private.
- Do not upload personal data or recordings without a clear school task and permission.
- You do not need an external AI tool for this aiMOOC.
- If you use AI for a draft, check the English, change the text and write the final version in your own words.
- Clear, understandable English matters more than copying one accent.
- Avoid stereotypes when you invent people or situations.

- use feedback to improve a second version.
No public upload is needed. A teacher can check a written text, a live dialogue or a private classroom recording.
