Your mission: Create a small digital travel guide in English. Your guide has several stops, short descriptions and simple recommendations.
Try English first → Hint → German help → example → solution. Use German help only when you need it.
Media warm-up: Look at the picture for 20 seconds. Say three things you can see and one thing you would like to do there.
Example: “I can see a bridge and a river. I would like to take a photo there.”
Watch and listen: This British Council video shows a day in London. First watch without stopping. Then watch again and note three places or activities.
Hint: Listen for place names and simple travel words.

Notice: Britain and the UK
For this travel guide, your route goes through the United Kingdom: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Great Britain is England, Scotland and Wales. In everyday travel language, people often use “Britain” more loosely, but this course keeps the difference clear.

Understand: Your virtual route
= Stop 1: London, England
London is the capital of England and of the UK. You can walk by the River Thames, see Tower Bridge and visit many museums. Some museums have free permanent collections.
My recommendation: Walk near the river and choose one museum that interests you.
Useful language: “You can …” – “I recommend …” – “It is interesting because …”
= Stop 2: Stonehenge, England
Stonehenge is a prehistoric stone monument in southern England. The stones are very old and the site is famous around the world.
My recommendation: Look at a map before your visit. Stonehenge is not in London.
Try English first: What makes this stop different from London?

= Stop 3: Cardiff, Wales
Cardiff is the capital of Wales. You can visit Cardiff Castle, walk through the city centre and explore Cardiff Bay.
My recommendation: Mix one historic place with one modern place.
Example: “I recommend Cardiff Castle because I like history.”
= Stop 4: Edinburgh, Scotland
Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland. Edinburgh Castle stands high above the city. The old streets and many cultural places make the city interesting for visitors.
My recommendation: Wear good shoes and explore the centre on foot.
Speaking challenge: Give a 20-second recommendation for Edinburgh.
= Stop 5: Belfast and Northern Ireland
Belfast is the capital of Northern Ireland. The city has an important shipbuilding history. A popular nature trip from Northern Ireland is the Giant's Causeway on the north coast.
My recommendation: Choose one city stop and one nature stop.
Deutsch-Hilfe: Belfast ist die Hauptstadt Nordirlands. Der Giant's Causeway liegt nicht direkt in Belfast, sondern an der Nordküste.

Say these travel words slowly, then in a short sentence:
- castle – “I want to visit the castle.”
- bridge – “The bridge is near the river.”
- museum – “The museum looks interesting.”
- Edinburgh – “Edinburgh is in Scotland.”
- Cardiff – “Cardiff is in Wales.”
Focus: Clear words and understandable rhythm are more important than sounding like a native speaker.
Private practice: You may record yourself on your own device and listen back. Recording is voluntary. Do not upload your voice unless your teacher gives a safe school platform and asks you to do so.

“First, I visit London. I want to see Tower Bridge and walk by the Thames. Next, I travel to Cardiff because I like castles. Then I go to Edinburgh. The city looks great from the castle area. My final stop is Northern Ireland. I choose Belfast and a day trip to the Giant's Causeway.”
Task: Put the stops in Mia's route in the correct order and explain one choice.
Solution: London → Cardiff → Edinburgh → Northern Ireland.
Use: Make your own mini travel guide
Create a short digital guide with four or five stops.
For each stop, write:
- place and country
- one short description
- one activity
- one recommendation with “I recommend … because …”
- one picture with a checked licence or one link to a safe source
Example: “Cardiff, Wales: Cardiff is the capital of Wales. You can visit Cardiff Castle. I recommend the castle because the building is impressive and the history is interesting.”
Hint: Keep each stop short. Clear English is more important than difficult English.

Feedback and use again
Swap guides with a partner.
Use this feedback:
- I can understand the route.
- Every stop has a place and an activity.
- The recommendations have reasons.
- The pictures have clear sources.
- One sentence could be clearer.
Then improve two parts of your guide and use the new version again in a short presentation.
Media safety, sources and AI
Use only media that you are allowed to reuse. Wikimedia Commons shows the licence and author on each file page. Keep the source with your guide.
Use fictional personal data in examples. Do not publish your home address, private travel dates, phone number or private recordings.
If you use an AI tool in class, only do so when your teacher allows it. Check facts, check image rights and rewrite the text in your own English. Do not send private data to external AI tools.
