What counts as independent confirmation?
Project status: 🔵 Level 2 · AG-C06; AG-T01 unchanged. Scientific evidence: Wei 2022’s existing moderate descriptive animal-model evidence remains unchanged, ⚪ Literature Level 1. Today assessed data provenance; no new biological effect.
The decision
The ARTISTA repository named in the original article is accessible. Its README links the same manuscript title, a preprint version and the data portal. The directory tree contains four 15DPI metadata files with “rep1”, “rep2”, “rep3” and “rep4” in their names. These labels do not establish four independently studied animals.

What this adds to the research model
Project inference: A reliable comparison requires measurements to be traceable through section and sample to the biological experimental unit. More files or cells alone do not increase the number of independent animals. Nesting alone does not establish an error in the original statistics; the required mapping could be present in unexamined CSV fields or supporting documentation.
Yesterday’s assessment of Wei still stands: spatial cell states and computational developmental trajectories address different questions from direct connectivity or circuit measurements. Today’s documentation check neither confirms nor refutes functional recovery. It prevents data files from being counted as additional biological confirmation. No new efficacy evidence arises for TIMP2, Hand2 or human aging.
Next executable step
Inspect only the header and a few rows of the metadata CSV exactly identified in the repository for explicit animal, section, age and sex fields. A suitable mapping legend must explain the fields. No complete CSV or matrix download, no invented animal identifiers. If such bounded access or a legend is unavailable, park this route until concrete new primary documentation becomes available.
Any subsequent claim of functional repair still requires an explicit connectivity/circuit assay with control, timing, biological unit and uncertainty. Cell counts and filenames do not replace this endpoint. No project experiments were performed.
Evidence, sources and search limits
Established within today’s assessment: the repository structure and README references. Promising signal: a concrete route for the next metadata check. Experimental results: none newly analyzed today; external Wei findings remain existing evidence. Hypothesis: reliably integrated and lasting regeneration as a component of a solution still requires testing.
