E10 G - Englisch 10 mit MOOCwiki lernen

Mini-Beschreibung: In diesem aiMOOC nutzt Du MOOCwiki zunehmend selbstständig für listening, viewing, reading, speaking, writing, mediation, grammar und eine mögliche Abschlussvorbereitung. Der Kurs ist für Klasse 10, Englisch als erste Fremdsprache, Baden-Württemberg, G-Niveau angelegt. Du arbeitest mit überschaubaren Texten, häufigem Wortschatz, klaren Aufgaben, Hilfen, Wiederholungen und direktem Feedback.

Learning route: English first → understand → respond → analyse → communicate → feedback → revise → transfer.

Wichtig: Du sollst Inhalte verstehen und sinnvoll verwenden, nicht alles vollständig ins Deutsche übersetzen. Aufnahmen sind freiwillig und bleiben privat. Lade keine Sprachaufnahme ungefragt hoch.

I-can-Ziele

Am Ende dieses aiMOOCs kannst Du sagen:

  1. I can understand the main idea of clear standard English on familiar topics.
  2. I can find important details in a short or medium-length text.
  3. I can ask for clarification when I do not understand.
  4. I can give and explain my opinion with simple reasons and examples.
  5. I can write a structured email, short report or opinion text with useful linking words.
  6. I can mediate key information between German and English without translating every word.
  7. I can use important grammar more accurately and recognise some structures that are mainly required receptively.
  8. I can check and revise my own work with a short checklist.
  9. I can use media responsibly and check sources, including AI-generated information.

Vorwissen aktivieren

Do this in English first. Answer with short notes.

  1. What English do you use outside school?
  2. Which is easier for you: listening, reading, speaking or writing?
  3. Which words help you when you need more time, for example “Could you repeat that, please?”
  4. What makes an email easy to understand?
  5. What do you already know about reported speech, past perfect, passive voice or conditional sentences?

Mini-check: Mark each skill: not yet – sometimes – usually. You will repeat the check at the end.

Medien-Einstieg: Listen before you read

Watch and listen once without subtitles if possible. Your first goal is only the main idea.

BBC Learning English: “Do you have a second job?”

First listening – gist: What is the main topic? Choose one short answer in your own words.

Second listening – details: Note three words or ideas you hear more than once or understand from context.

Third listening – transfer: Say or write two sentences: “One advantage of a side job could be …” and “One possible problem could be …”

Help: You do not need every word. Use the title, speakers’ tone, repeated words and examples.

Listening and Viewing

For G-level listening, work in short rounds:

  1. Round 1 – gist: What is the topic?
  2. Round 2 – key details: Who? What? Why? Result?
  3. Round 3 – check: Which details are certain, and which are only guesses?
  4. Round 4 – respond: Give one short reaction.

Listen to this job-interview episode. The candidate and company are part of a learning series; for your own practice below, use only fictional names and data.

Listening task:

  1. Before watching: predict three useful interview phrases.
  2. While watching: note the purpose of two phrases.
  3. After watching: choose one phrase pattern and adapt it to a fictional student profile.

Immediate feedback checklist: Did you identify the topic? Did you catch at least two useful phrases? Can you explain what one phrase is used for? If not, replay only the relevant part instead of restarting everything.

Listening strategy: signal words

Listen for words that show structure: first, because, but, however, for example, finally. They can help you understand a message even when some vocabulary is new.

Can-do: I can understand the main idea of clear standard English with support: not yet – almost – yes.

Reading

Fictional practice text: Future plans

Jamie Patel is 16 and is finishing Year 11 at a fictional school called Westfield Community School. Jamie enjoys practical work, helping people and learning how technology works. At weekends, Jamie sometimes helps at a community repair café. The work is unpaid, but Jamie has learned to explain simple technical problems to visitors and to work in a team.

After school, Jamie wants to explore two options. One option is vocational training in an IT-related field. The other is a further school course. Jamie has not made a final decision yet. Before choosing, Jamie wants to talk to people in both areas and compare daily tasks, training time and future opportunities.

Jamie knows that communication matters. In a recent group project, a misunderstanding caused the team to lose time. Since then, Jamie has tried to ask clearer questions and confirm important information. Jamie says: “I do not need to know everything immediately. I need to know how to find out what I am missing.”

Reading tasks

  1. Gist: What is the text mainly about?
  2. Scanning: Find two things Jamie has learned at the repair café.
  3. Detail: Which two future options is Jamie considering?
  4. Connection: Why does Jamie now ask clearer questions?
  5. Inference with support: What personal strength can you infer from the final quote? Give one reason from the text.

Reading help: First mark names, time words, contrast words and repeated ideas. Do not stop at every unknown word.

Feedback: A strong answer uses evidence from the text. For the last task, more than one answer can be reasonable if the reason fits the text.

Kontextwortschatz

Learn words in useful chunks, not as isolated lists.

Chunk Meaning in context Your example
apply for a position sich auf eine Stelle bewerben I want to apply for a weekend position.
work in a team im Team arbeiten I can work in a team.
ask for clarification um Klärung bitten Could you explain what you mean?
give a reason einen Grund nennen I prefer this option because ...
take responsibility Verantwortung übernehmen I can take responsibility for a small task.
meet a deadline eine Frist einhalten We need to meet the deadline.

Word strategy: When you meet a new word, check: sentence context → word family → familiar parts → dictionary if needed. Do not guess from one letter or from a similar-looking German word alone.

Aussprache und Intonation

The goal is clear communication. You do not need to imitate one “perfect” accent. Focus on word stress, sentence stress, endings and understandable pace.

Practice:

  1. Choose five useful words from this course, for example application, experience, communication, responsibility, opportunity.
  2. Mark the stressed syllable.
  3. Say each word slowly, then in a short sentence.
  4. Record yourself only if you want to. Keep the recording private unless you deliberately choose to share it.
  5. Compare: Is the stressed syllable clear? Are word endings audible? Is the pace understandable?

Can-do: I can speak clearly enough to be understood, even if my accent is not native-like: not yet – almost – yes.

Speaking

You need phrases that help you keep a conversation going.

Useful language:

  1. Starting: I’d like to talk about ...
  2. Opinion: In my view, ...
  3. Reason: I think this because ...
  4. Example: For example, ...
  5. Clarifying: Could you explain that again, please?
  6. Checking: Do you mean ...?
  7. Agreeing: I see your point.
  8. Disagreeing politely: I understand your point, but I see it differently.
  9. Closing: So, we agree that ...

Speaking task – 60 seconds: “Should students have a small part-time job during the school year?” Give your view, one reason, one example and a short conclusion.

Pair version: Student A gives an opinion. Student B asks one clarification question and responds politely. Then switch roles.

Private recording option: Make one 30–60 second voice memo. Listen once. Revise only one point: clearer structure, clearer word stress or one grammar target. No upload is required.

Writing

At G-level, clear structure is more important than complicated language. Use short paragraphs and check whether every sentence helps the reader.

Writing task 1: structured email

Fictional situation: You are Sam Morgan. You want information about a fictional two-day work-experience workshop at “Green Lane Media Lab”.

Write a short email. Include:

  1. why you are writing,
  2. one sentence about your interest,
  3. two clear questions,
  4. a polite closing.

Writing frame:

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing because ...

I am interested in ... because ...

Could you please tell me ...?

I would also like to know ... .

Thank you for your help.

Kind regards, Sam Morgan

Self-feedback: Check purpose → paragraphs → two questions → polite ending → verbs and word order → spelling.

Writing task 2: opinion paragraph

Use the structure point → reason → example → conclusion.

Starter: I think ... . One reason is ... . For example, ... . Therefore, ... .

Keep your first version. When you revise, change only what improves meaning, structure or accuracy. Do not replace your whole text with AI-generated wording.

Mediation

Mediation is not word-for-word translation. Your job is to transfer relevant meaning for a specific person and situation.

Fictional German notice:

Das Jugendzentrum Sonnenhof sucht für ein zweitägiges Medienprojekt Helferinnen und Helfer ab 15 Jahren. Aufgaben sind die Begrüßung der Teilnehmenden, Hilfe beim Aufbau und einfache Foto- und Audioaufgaben. Das Projekt findet am Samstag und Sonntag von 10 bis 16 Uhr statt. Vorkenntnisse sind nicht nötig. Interessierte sollen bis Mittwoch eine kurze E-Mail schreiben.

Situation: Your English-speaking friend Taylor asks what matters. Explain the key information in English in 4–6 sentences.

Do not translate everything. Select: Who can join? What are the tasks? When is it? Are skills needed? What is the next step?

Feedback check: If Taylor could decide what to do next after reading your message, your mediation is probably useful.

Functional Grammar: use it for communication

In E10 G, some grammar should be used productively, while some structures mainly need to be recognised. Do not turn a receptive target into a difficult production task.

Productive accuracy targets

1. Conditional clauses III – talk about an unreal past result.

If I had prepared better, I would have felt calmer.

2. Past perfect – show that one past action happened before another.

I had checked the address before I left home.

3. Passive voice with selected structures – focus on action or result.

The applicants were given clear information.

4. Reported speech – report statements, questions and commands.

Direct: The trainer said, “Please arrive at nine.” Reported: The trainer asked us to arrive at nine.

Step-by-step accuracy routine: meaning first → one target structure → short example → own sentence → check verb form → use it in a real message.

Mainly receptive targets

At G-level, some Class 10 forms are mainly for understanding. Recognise their meaning before trying to produce them freely, for example present perfect progressive, future progressive, future perfect, and some compact infinitive/participle constructions or adverbial sequences.

Recognition example: “By Friday, we will have finished the project.” → The finishing is expected before a future point.

Rule: If the task only asks you to understand a structure, you do not need to force it into your own speaking or writing.

Fehleranalyse und Revision

Use a small correction focus. Too many corrections at once can hide the message.

Step Question
Meaning Is my message understandable?
Structure Does the reader know what comes first, next and last?
Accuracy Which one grammar target should I check?
Vocabulary Is my word choice clear and appropriate?
Spelling Are key words and names correct?
Revision What one change improves the text most?

Error code idea: V = verb, WO = word order, WW = wrong word, Sp = spelling, ? = meaning unclear. Correct the marked part yourself before asking for a full solution.

Safe and responsible media / AI use

  1. Use fictional names, addresses, companies and applications in course tasks.
  2. Keep optional speaking recordings private unless you intentionally choose to share them.
  3. Do not upload recordings, photos or personal documents just because a task mentions digital work.
  4. Check AI-generated facts and sources. A confident sentence can still be wrong.
  5. Keep your own draft. Use feedback to improve it instead of replacing your voice.
  6. Avoid culture clichés. Describe evidence, individual perspectives and context.
  7. Choose clarity and respect over imitation of a “native” accent.

Possible Abschlussvorbereitung

This is a practice routine, not a claim about one specific examination format. Check current school and exam requirements with your teacher.

Mini practice set:

  1. Listening: One short video, first for gist, then for details.
  2. Reading: One text, mark main idea, details and connectors.
  3. Speaking: 60–90 seconds with opinion, reason, example and conclusion.
  4. Writing: One structured email or opinion text.
  5. Mediation: Transfer only relevant points for a clear audience.
  6. Grammar: Correct a small set of frequent errors and one Class 10 target.

Timing idea: Work in short blocks. After each block, check one result and note one next step.

Can-do-Check

Rate yourself: not yet – almost – yes.

  1. I can listen for gist before details.
  2. I can use context instead of translating every unknown word.
  3. I can ask for clarification and keep a conversation going.
  4. I can give an opinion with a reason and example.
  5. I can write a clear short email with useful paragraphs.
  6. I can mediate key information without translating line by line.
  7. I can use conditional III, past perfect, selected passive forms and reported speech with support.
  8. I can recognise selected receptive grammar without forcing it into my own text.
  9. I can revise my work after feedback.
  10. I can use media and AI tools responsibly.

Next step: Choose the two “not yet” or “almost” items that matter most. Repeat only those parts first.

Folgekurs

Continue with a focused course such as E10 G - Englisch Abschlussvorbereitung mit MOOCwiki or a topic course that practises one weak skill in more depth. Keep the same cycle: understand → respond → feedback → revise → transfer.
