E7 G - Follow the main events
E7 G - Follow the main events
Mini-Beschreibung: Ordne zentrale Ereignisse, Orte und Figuren einer Lektüre und sichere das grundlegende Verständnis.
Zielgruppe: Englisch als erste Fremdsprache, Klasse 7, G-Niveau, Baden-Württemberg.
So lernst Du: English first → try → context/media → hint → German help if needed. Du bekommst keine automatische Vollübersetzung. Du arbeitest mit kurzen Texten, wenigen Figuren, Bildern, wiederkehrenden Chunks und klaren Satzstartern.
Lernweg: Notice → understand → try → use → communicate → feedback → improve → use again.
Datenschutz und Medien: Die Figuren in diesem Kurs sind erfunden. Eigene Sprachaufnahmen sind freiwillig und bleiben privat. Lade nichts ungefragt hoch. Nutze keine externen KI-Dienste mit privaten Daten. KI-Feedback darf Dir Hinweise geben, soll Deinen eigenen Text aber nicht ersetzen.

- Maybe the story starts at ...
- I think the characters are ...
Hint: train – station – city – trip – bag
Deutsch-Hilfe, nur wenn nötig: Schau auf das Bild. Vermute, wo eine Geschichte beginnen könnte. Ein einzelnes passendes Wort reicht zuerst.

Mini task: Which place looks busier: the station or the city centre? Say one short sentence.
Model: The city centre looks busier.

Vorwissen
Try first – English:
Put these chunks in a useful story order:
first – finally – then – after that
Hint: Start → middle → middle → end
Deutsch-Hilfe, nur wenn nötig: Welches Wort passt zum Anfang? Welches zum Ende?
Quick check: first → then → after that → finally
Context: Bristol
Our short reading takes place in Bristol, a city in south-west England. You only need three place names.
- Bristol Temple Meads – the story starts here.
- Bristol Harbour – an important middle place.
- Clifton Suspension Bridge – the final place.
Notice: Water, boats and buildings can help you recognise the harbour in a story.

Try: Point to the bridge in the picture and say: This is the bridge.
Media note: Die Bilder stammen aus Wikimedia Commons. Die jeweilige Dateiseite nennt Urheber und freie Lizenz beziehungsweise Gemeinfreiheit.
The reading: The missing folder
The characters are fictional.
Maya is 13. She likes taking photos.
Noah is 13. He likes maps and planning routes.
They are in Bristol for a school project.
Scene 1 – At the station
Maya and Noah arrived at Bristol Temple Meads in the morning. They had a blue folder with notes for their school project. Maya took one photo outside the station. Then they walked to the bus stop.
Check the main event: What did they have?
Hint: Look for a colour + an object.
Feedback: They had a blue folder.
Scene 2 – On the way
On the bus, Noah checked the map. Maya looked for the folder. It was not in her bag. She felt worried. They got off near the harbour.
Try first: What is the problem?
A useful chunk: The problem is that ...
Feedback: The problem is that the folder is missing.
Scene 3 – At the harbour
At Bristol Harbour, they stopped and thought. Noah remembered the station. Maya remembered putting the folder next to her camera when she took the first photo. They decided to go back.

Notice: The place helps you follow the event. Harbour = they stop and think.
Hint: remembered → decided → go back
Deutsch-Hilfe, nur wenn nötig: Sie erinnern sich an den Bahnhof und treffen eine Entscheidung.
Scene 4 – Back at Temple Meads
They returned to the station. At the information desk, a staff member had the blue folder. Someone had found it near the entrance. Maya checked the notes. Everything was there.
Important: For this G-level task, focus on the main event: They got the folder back.
Scene 5 – The final stop
Maya and Noah continued their project. In the afternoon, they went to Clifton Suspension Bridge. Maya took a new photo. Noah wrote the final note: “We lost the folder, but we solved the problem together.”

Main idea: They finished their project after solving a problem.
Follow the main events
Use this short model:
First, Maya and Noah arrived at the station.
Then, Maya noticed that the folder was missing.
After that, they went back to the station.
Finally, they got the folder back and continued their project.
Your turn: Cover the model. Retell the story with the four sequence words.
Hint: You do not need every detail.
Deutsch-Hilfe, nur wenn nötig: Erzähle nur die vier wichtigsten Schritte. Kleine Details kannst Du weglassen.
Listening / Viewing
First viewing: no transcript. No full translation.
Watch only for the main idea: What helps you read in another language?
Try 1: Watch a short part without subtitles. Choose one idea you understand.
- easy texts
- pictures
- familiar stories
- reading every unknown word
Try 2: Watch again with subtitles if needed.
Hint: Listen for repeated words such as read, book, language.
German help, only if needed: Du musst nicht alles verstehen. Suche nur eine Hauptaussage.
Feedback: A useful reading strategy is to choose material that is manageable and familiar. Pictures and prior knowledge can support understanding.
Transcript rule: Open a transcript only after your first listening/viewing attempt.
Reading strategy
When you follow main events, use three questions:
- Who? Who is important?
- Where? Where does the event happen?
- What happened? What changed?
Mini model:
Who? Maya and Noah.
Where? At the station.
What happened? The folder was missing.
Try again: Use the same three questions for the harbour scene.
Feedback:
Who? Maya and Noah.
Where? At the harbour.
What happened? They remembered the station and decided to go back.
Vocabulary in context
Do not learn a long list. Learn useful chunks.
| Chunk | Meaning in the story | Model |
|---|---|---|
| arrive at | an einem Ort ankommen | They arrived at the station. |
| look for | nach etwas suchen | Maya looked for the folder. |
| go back | zurückgehen oder zurückfahren | They went back to the station. |
| find something | etwas finden | Someone found the folder. |
| solve a problem | ein Problem lösen | They solved the problem. |
| main event | zentrales Ereignis | The missing folder is a main event. |
Try: Complete orally.
They arrived at ...
Maya looked for ...
They went back to ...
They solved ...
Pronunciation
Clarity is more important than accent.
Practise these short chunks slowly, then at normal speed:
first – then – after that – finally
Rhythm tip: Stress the important word.
FIRST, they arrived.
THEN, the folder was missing.
FI-nal-ly, they found it.
Private practice: You may record yourself only if you want to. Keep the recording private unless your teacher gives a clear safe task.
Functional grammar: Past simple
We use the past simple to tell finished events in the past.
Models from the story:
Maya looked for the folder.
They went back.
Someone found the folder.
They continued the project.
Notice: Some verbs end in -ed. Some verbs are irregular.
Try:
Today: They go to the station.
Yesterday: They went to the station.
Today: Maya looks for the folder.
Yesterday: Maya looked for the folder.
Viewing task: Listen for one use of the past simple. Then write one short past-simple sentence about the story.
Feedback model: Maya checked her bag.
Optional E-Ausblick – not a G-level target
This sentence gives a small look ahead only:
By the time they reached the harbour, Maya had left the folder at the station.
The form had left is past perfect. You do not need to use it in this G-level course.
Speaking
Goal: Tell the story in four connected sentences.
Use the speaking frame:
First, ...
Then, ...
After that, ...
Finally, ...
Word bank: station – folder – missing – harbour – go back – found – bridge
Partner task:
Student A tells events 1 and 2.
Student B tells events 3 and 4.
Then tell the whole sequence together.
Feedback check:
- Did you use sequence words?
- Did you name the main problem?
- Did you speak clearly enough to be understood?
Writing
Write 4–5 connected sentences.
Use this frame:
First, Maya and Noah ...
Then, Maya ...
After that, they ...
Finally, ...
The main problem was ...
Help 1: Use the word bank.
Help 2: Copy the sentence starters, but complete them with your own information.
Help 3 – German, only if needed: Schreibe nicht jedes Detail. Ein wichtiger Schritt pro Satz reicht.
Direct feedback:
A strong G-level answer has a clear order, the main problem, the solution and understandable past-simple verbs.
Mediation – optional
A German classmate asks: “What happened in the story?”
Explain the story in German in three short points. Do not translate every sentence.
Focus: main events only.
Check: Did you include the problem and the solution?
Mini-Transfer
Imagine a new short story:
A student takes the wrong bus, notices the mistake, asks for help and reaches the sports centre.
Task: Tell the four main events with:
first – then – after that – finally
Model start: First, the student took the wrong bus.
Feedback and improve
Read your own answer again.
Choose one improvement:
- add a sequence word;
- correct one past-simple verb;
- remove one unimportant detail;
- make one sentence clearer.
Then read or say your improved version again.
