Mini description: Compare a very short English text scene with a video version. Look at action, characters and atmosphere. Then use your ideas in speaking and writing.

Look at the two pictures. What atmosphere do they create?

Think – pair – share: Say three words. Then compare with a partner.

Useful words: dark – bright – quiet – strange – safe – scary – calm – tense.

Notice: Read a very short scene

Scene: Granny's room

Red steps into Granny's room. Granny is in bed, but something feels strange.

Red: “Granny, your eyes look very big.”

Granny: “I can see you very well.”

Red moves closer. The room is quiet and a little dark.

First reading: What happens? Who is there? How does the scene feel?

Hint: Underline one action, circle two characters and box one atmosphere word.

Watch the British Council version of Little Red Riding Hood. First watch for the story. Then watch the scene in Granny's room again.

Possible focus: face, eyes, voice, movement, room, sound, speed.

Hint: You do not need every word. Look and listen for evidence.

Practise: See it, hear it, say it

Task 1 – action: Tell a partner three things that happen.

Task 2 – characters: Choose one character. Give two details from the text or video.

Task 3 – atmosphere: Choose one word and give evidence.

Hint: Use because.

Example: The atmosphere is tense because Red moves closer to Granny.

Pronunciation: clear beats

Say the key words slowly. Stress the strong part.

Short writing output

Write 5–7 sentences.

Your question: How are the text scene and the video scene similar and different?

Plan:

one sentence about action
one sentence about characters
two sentences about atmosphere or sound
one final opinion with a reason

Example start: Both versions show Red in Granny's room. In the text, the room is quiet and dark. In the video, ...

Self-check: Did you use both, but or because?

Optional mediation

Answer in simple English first.

Hint: Give two reasons.
