E7 G - English-speaking places around the world
Mini-Beschreibung: Discover the English-speaking world! Du kennst Großbritannien und die USA schon. Jetzt findest Du auf einer Weltkarte auch Canada, Australia und New Zealand. Du lernst wenige wichtige Fakten und benutzt einfache englische Sätze.

Look first: What can you see on the map? Point to Europe, North America and Oceania. You do not need to understand every country on the map.
I can ...
- I can find five English-speaking places on a world map.
- I can say the continent and one city or landmark.
- I can understand short, clear information in a video or text.
- I can use chunks such as It is in ..., You can see ... and People speak ....
- I can write and say a short travel idea.
Before you start
Try in English first.
Think – point – say: Where are the UK and the USA? Which other places do you know?
Useful chunks: I think ... is in ... – Maybe this is ... – I know ...
Help if you need it: continent = Kontinent, capital = Hauptstadt, landmark = bekannte Sehenswürdigkeit.
Five places on the world map
English is used by many people in all five places. But these places are not English-only. People use different languages, accents and varieties of English. That is normal.
The United Kingdom

The UK is in Europe. London is the capital. English is widely used. You can also hear languages such as Welsh and many community languages.
Try: The UK is in Europe. London is its capital.
The United States of America

The USA is in North America. Washington, D.C. is the capital. The Golden Gate Bridge is in San Francisco.
Try: The USA is in North America. You can see famous cities and landmarks.
Canada

Canada is in North America. Ottawa is the capital. At federal level, English and French are the two official languages.
Try: Canada is north of the USA. English and French are important languages.
Australia

Australia is in Oceania. Canberra is the capital. English is used by many people. Australia is multilingual, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages are part of the country too.
Try: Australia is far from Europe. Sydney has a famous opera house.
Viewing – first try: Watch a short part without subtitles. Tick in your head: animals – cities – landscape.
Second try: Watch again with subtitles if you need them. Write only three words you understand.
New Zealand

New Zealand is in Oceania. Wellington is the capital. English is widely used. Te reo Māori and New Zealand Sign Language are also important parts of life in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Try: New Zealand is in Oceania. It has two main islands.
Listening and viewing
North America clip:
- First watch: Do not use subtitles. Listen for North America, Canada and United States.
- Second watch: Use subtitles if needed. Find one landscape word.
- Check: Canada and the USA are both in North America. North America also has other countries, so do not use North America as another name for the USA.
Hint: You do not need every word. Listen for names, places and repeated words.
Deutsch-Hilfe nur bei Bedarf: Höre zuerst auf bekannte Namen. Beim zweiten Durchgang darfst Du Untertitel nutzen.
Reading: five short profiles
The profiles are fictional. They do not show private social-media data.
Mia – London: Hi! I live near London. I use English at school. I like parks and buses. My favourite place is by the River Thames.
Jay – California: Hi! I live in the USA. My family likes trips to the coast. I can show you the Golden Gate Bridge in a photo.
Noah – Ottawa: Hi! I live in Canada. I hear English and French in my city. In winter, it can be very cold.
Ruby – Sydney: Hi! I live in Australia. I speak English with my friends. I like the sea and city walks.
Aroha – Wellington: Kia ora! I live in New Zealand. I use English every day and I also learn te reo Māori words at school.
Reading task: Choose two profiles. Say: This person is in ... and One detail is ...
