Einleitung

Your mission: Produce a short English audio or podcast contribution about one leisure activity. Describe the activity, give your opinion and end with a recommendation.

Target: about 60–90 seconds, clear structure, mostly free speaking, simple natural English. You do not need a perfect accent. Your goal is to be easy to understand.

Safe media rule: Recordings are voluntary and should stay private unless your teacher and you agree on another safe solution. Do not upload personal recordings, names, locations or social-media data without permission. Do not send recordings to external AI tools without permission. AI feedback can help, but you check it and keep your own ideas and wording.

I can ...

Leisure activities: I can describe a hobby or free-time activity.
Opinion: I can say what I like or dislike and give a reason.
Recommendation: I can recommend an activity to other teenagers.
Speaking: I can speak for about one minute with a clear beginning, middle and ending.
Pronunciation: I can stress important words and speak clearly.
Media skills: I can make a simple, safe private audio recording and check my result.

Media start: What do you do in your free time?

Look at the pictures. Say one sentence for each activity. Then choose one picture and add an opinion.

Try: “I like ... because ...” / “I often ...” / “I would recommend ...”

Hint: Use short reasons: fun, relaxing, exciting, creative, healthy, social, cheap, easy to start.

What you already know

You already know many useful building blocks:

Simple present: “I play basketball twice a week.”
Simple past: “Last weekend, I played with my friends.”
Adverbs of frequency: “I usually go cycling on Saturdays.”
can: “You can do it indoors or outdoors.”
Linking words: “because”, “but”, “so”, “also”.

Quick try: Make three sentences about your free time. One sentence should include usually, one because, and one can.

Listening and viewing

Notice → understand: Listen for activities and frequency words.

First viewing: Which activities do you hear?
Second viewing: Note two frequency expressions.
Mini-transfer: Say how often you do one of the activities.

Hint: You do not need to understand every word. Listen for key words and repeated phrases.

Talking about the weekend

Listen for ways to talk about a past weekend.

Try: Give a 20-second answer: “Last weekend, I ... It was ... because ...”

Feedback check: Did you use a past form? Did you give one detail? Did you add an opinion?

Use the video as a challenge. Pause before an answer when possible and make your own choice first.

“Hi, I’m Jamie. Today I’m talking about cycling. I ride my bike two or three times a week, usually after school or at the weekend. I like cycling because I can be outdoors and move at the same time. Sometimes I ride alone, but going with a friend is more fun. You only need a safe bike, a helmet and a good route. In my opinion, cycling is relaxing and active. I’d recommend it if you enjoy being outside. Thanks for listening!”

Understand: Find one description, one opinion and one recommendation.

Think: Which sentence makes the podcast sound personal?

Use words, not lists: Build complete sentences. Your podcast should sound like a short message to real listeners.

Pronunciation: clear beats perfect

Read this sentence aloud:

I’d RECOMMEND cycling because it’s FUN and RELAXING.

Stress the important content words. Small grammar words are usually less strong.

Try twice: First slowly, then at a natural speed.

Self-feedback: Can a listener hear the important words? Are your sentence endings clear?

Sound and recording

For a clear recording, choose a quiet place and keep the microphone at a comfortable distance. A phone microphone can be enough for a short school recording.

Test first: Record one sentence, listen back, then change only one thing: volume, distance or speaking speed.

Speaking: build your podcast

Use this 4-part structure:

Opening: “Hi! Today I’m talking about ...”
Description: What do you do? When? Where? With whom?
Opinion: What do you like or dislike? Why?
Recommendation: Who should try it? Why?

E-level challenge: Add one contrast or different perspective: “I enjoy it, but my friend thinks it is too tiring.”

Speak from keywords, not a full script when you feel ready.

Functional grammar

Present, past and useful links

Use grammar because it helps your message.

Simple present for habits: “I play volleyball every Friday.”
Simple past for one past experience: “Last Saturday, we played outside.”
Frequency for routines: “I often practise after school.”
because for reasons: “I like it because it is social.”
but for contrast: “It is fun, but it can be tiring.”
would for recommendations: “I’d recommend it.”

Not needed yet: passive voice and reported speech are not goals here.

E outlook only: You may later meet the past perfect, for example: “I had finished my homework before I went cycling.” You do not need it for this podcast.

Write 5–7 short notes, not a long essay.

AI rule: If you use AI feedback, check every suggestion. Keep your own ideas. Do not let AI replace your text.

Mediation: explain the task

A German-speaking classmate asks what the podcast task is. Explain the key points in simple German without translating every sentence.

Your mediation should include: topic, approximate length, three content parts and the privacy rule.

Then switch back to English and continue your own podcast.

Record, listen, improve

Version 1: Record only if you want to. A private recording on a school-approved device is enough.

Listen once for meaning and once for sound.

Meaning: Is the activity clear?
Opinion: Is there a reason?
Recommendation: Is it clear who might enjoy the activity?
Sound: Is the voice easy to understand?
Flow: Are pauses helpful, not distracting?
Safety: Did you avoid unnecessary personal data?

Improve one thing. Then record or present again.

Direct feedback

Use two short comments for a partner or for yourself:

One thing that works: “Your recommendation is clear because ...”

One next step: “Add one example.” / “Speak a little more slowly.” / “Stress the key word.” / “Give a stronger reason.”

Feedback should be about the message, not about having a “perfect” accent.

Mini-transfer: change the audience

Your first podcast is for classmates.

Now change the audience: imagine you are speaking to an exchange student who has never tried your activity.

Add one sentence that gives useful context:

“Before you start, you should know that ...”

or

“If you are new to it, ...”
