Do not learn many rules now. Learn the six words as two small word families.

Tiny grammar help

Use better than and worse than when you compare two things.

Example: The green bike is better than the blue bike.

Use the best and the worst for one thing in a small group.

Example: For Mia, the red bike is the best.

Practise

Pronunciation: clear is the goal

Listen again and repeat slowly.

better → stress the first syllable.

best → make the final sound clear.

worse and worst sound similar. Listen carefully to the ending.

Your goal is easy to understand, not a perfect accent.

Choose one starter and finish the sentence.

Three fictional school cafés

Café A is good. Café B is better because the sandwiches are fresh. Café C is the best for Jo because the fruit is free.

The queue at Café A is bad. The queue at Café B is worse. On Friday, the queue at Café C is the worst.

Use

Speak with a partner

Partner A chooses two fictional things. Partner B compares them.

A: Bike A is good.

B: Bike B is better than Bike A.

Then add a third thing.

A: What about Bike C?

B: Bike C is the best for me.

Change roles.

Short writing

Write four short sentences about three fictional items.

Use this frame:

Item A is good. Item B is better than Item A. Item C is the best for me. Item A has a bad feature, but Item B has a worse feature.

You may change the nouns and details.

Help 1: Use the word bank.

Help 2: Write one sentence at a time.

Help 3: Check only three targets: better than, the best, worse than or the worst.

Mini mediation

A German-speaking friend asks: „Welches der drei fiktiven Angebote ist besser?“

Read:

Plan A is good. Plan B is better because it is cheaper. Plan C is the best for Mia because it includes lunch.

Answer in simple German with the main information only.

Possible solution: Plan B ist besser als Plan A, weil es günstiger ist. Für Mia ist Plan C am besten, weil Mittagessen dabei ist.
