Your learning rule: English first → context → try → ask → hint → German help if needed. Eine Vollübersetzung ist nicht das Ziel. Du sollst aus Kontext, Bildern, bekannten Wörtern und Beispielen Bedeutung erschließen.

Mini description: Learn English with short texts, clear media, direct feedback and useful language for real situations. Work step by step. Check what you can do. Ask for a hint before you ask for German help.
Safety first: Alle Profile und Situationen in diesem Kurs sind fiktiv. Nutze keine privaten Social-Media-Daten. Eigene Audio- oder Videoaufnahmen sind freiwillig und bleiben privat. Lade nichts ungefragt hoch. Wenn Du KI-Hilfen nutzt, prüfe Fakten, Sprachniveau und Feedback selbst und lass Deine eigenen Texte nicht einfach ersetzen.
I can – Deine Ziele
Am Ende kannst Du möglichst sagen:
- I can understand the main idea of a clear short audio or video.
- I can read a longer short text and find important details.
- I can speak in connected sentences and give an opinion with a reason.
- I can write a clear e-mail, short report, opinion text or simple job-related text with a structure.
- I can mediate important information between German and English without translating every word.
- I can use vocabulary from context and build useful word groups.
- I can notice grammar in real texts and use the forms that are needed at G level.
- I can check my own mistakes and improve one or two points at a time.

Start: What do you already know?
Quick warm-up – 4 minutes
- Write three English sentences about your week.
- Say one opinion: I think … because …
- Read this sentence and explain the main idea: Our school club has started a new repair project because students want to waste less.
- Listen to a familiar English clip and note three words you understand.
Do not stop at every unknown word. First ask: Who? Where? What is happening? What do I already know?
German help if needed: Suche zuerst nur die Schlüsselidee. Unbekannte Einzelwörter sind nicht automatisch wichtig.
Media start: Listen, watch, predict

Watch only once first. Do not switch on a transcript immediately.
Before watching: The title is The teenage brain. Predict three words you may hear.
First watch/listen: What is the main topic? Write one sentence.
Second watch/listen: Note two facts or ideas you understood.
Only now: Use captions or the transcript for one short section if needed. Compare your notes. Do not translate the whole transcript.
Self-check: A good answer gives the main topic and at least two understandable details. Small grammar mistakes are less important than correct meaning.
Listening and Viewing
E8-G listening strategy
- First round: gist. Listen for topic, place, people and situation.
- Second round: detail. Listen for names, reasons, actions and key words.
- Third round only if needed: support. Use captions, transcript or a short replay.
For G level, audio should normally be clear, moderate and not overloaded with many speakers. Repetition is useful.
Mini listening task: Hear the English phrase and repeat it once.
What do you hear? Focus on the whole sound, not every letter.
Pronunciation reminder: Verständlichkeit ist wichtiger als Akzentfreiheit.
Connected speech: hear more, speak more clearly
Try: Listen to two examples. Repeat one sentence slowly, then once at natural speed.
Hint: English words often connect. Do not force every written word to sound separate.
German help: Beim Hören können Wörter miteinander verbunden klingen. Das ist normal. Du musst keinen bestimmten Akzent imitieren.
Reading

Read first. Do not translate line by line.
A new school project
Maya is 13 and goes to a fictional school in Bristol. Her class wanted to reduce waste, so they started a repair afternoon once a month. Students bring small objects that no longer work. A teacher and two volunteers help them check the items. Last week Maya brought an old desk lamp. She had already tried a new bulb, but the lamp still did not work. At the project, the cable was checked and a loose connection was found. Maya says the project is useful because students learn practical skills and save resources. She now wants to write a short report for the school website.
Reading task
- What is the project?
- Why does Maya like it?
- Which action happened before she came to the repair afternoon?
- Find one passive form.
Hint 1: Look for repeated words and time signals.
Hint 2: had already tried shows an earlier past action. was checked is passive.
German help if needed: Du musst diese beiden Formen im G-Kurs vor allem erkennen und verstehen. Du musst sie hier nicht selbst bilden.
Feedback: The project is a repair afternoon. Maya likes it because students learn practical skills and save resources. She had tried a new bulb before the repair afternoon. One passive form is was checked.
Vocabulary in context
Learn useful chunks, not isolated word lists.
| Word or chunk | Meaning from context | Useful example |
|---|---|---|
| to reduce waste | use less and throw away less | We want to reduce waste. |
| to find out | discover information | I want to find out what happened. |
| useful | helpful for a purpose | This feedback is useful. |
| to take part | join an activity | I take part in the project. |
| in my opinion | phrase for your view | In my opinion, the idea is practical. |
| because | gives a reason | I like it because it saves time. |
| however | introduces a contrast | It is useful. However, it takes time. |
| responsible for | having a duty | Our group is responsible for the poster. |
Mini method: Cover the middle column. Explain each phrase in simple English. Use German only if the meaning is still unclear.
Pronunciation

Goal: clear and understandable speech.
- Mark the important word in a sentence.
- Speak in short sense groups.
- Do not rush.
- Repeat difficult phrases, not whole long texts.
- Accept different English accents.
Try aloud:
I think the project is useful because it saves resources.
In my opinion, students should get more chances to work together.
Feedback question: Can another person understand your main message without seeing your text?
Speaking

Task: Give an opinion with a reason.
Choose one topic:
- School clubs
- Homework
- Screen time
- A class project
- A part-time job idea
Use this small structure:
My view → reason → example → closing sentence
Example:
I think school clubs are useful because students can learn outside normal lessons. For example, a repair club can teach practical skills. So I would like more project time.
If you get stuck
Ask: What word do I need?
Hint: Use I think … because …, For example …, However …, So ….
German help if needed: Formuliere lieber drei klare verbundene Aussagen als einen zu komplizierten Satz.
Private recording option: You may record yourself on your own device, listen once, improve one point and delete the recording. No upload is needed.
Writing
The video is about work e-mails. Some language is above G level, so use it as a model bank, not as a test.
E8-G writing frame
1. Start → 2. Main message → 3. Reason or detail → 4. End
Task A: E-mail
Write 80–110 words to a fictional school club. Ask about one activity and explain why you want to join.
Useful language:
Hi …,
I am writing because …
I would like to know …
I am interested in … because …
Thanks for your help.
Best wishes,
Task B: Short report
Write 90–120 words about a class activity. Use a title, a short beginning, two or three important details and a final sentence.
Task C: Opinion text
Write about a school question. Give your opinion, one reason, one example and a short conclusion.
Writing check: Is the purpose clear? Are ideas connected? Did you give a reason? Did you use paragraphs? Check only two language points at the end: verb forms and word order.
Mediation
Mediation is not full translation. You pass on the information another person needs.
Situation
A German notice says:
Der Reparatur-Nachmittag findet am Donnerstag von 14:00 bis 16:00 Uhr in Raum 204 statt. Bringt nur kleine Geräte ohne gefährliche Schäden mit. Anmeldung bis Dienstag im Sekretariat.
Your English-speaking exchange partner asks: When is it, where is it and what do I need to know?
Try in simple English.
Hint: Keep only relevant information.
Possible answer: The repair afternoon is on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. in room 204. You can bring a small device, but it must not be dangerous. Please sign up at the school office by Tuesday.
German help: Sprachmittlung bedeutet sinngemäßes Weitergeben, nicht Satz-für-Satz-Übersetzen.
Grammar for communication
Grammar helps you understand and communicate. It is not a collection of isolated forms.
Reported speech without backshift
At G level, practise simple reported speech without backshift when the reporting situation is still current.
Direct: Maya says, "The project is useful."
Reported: Maya says the project is useful.
Direct: Noah says, "I need more time."
Reported: Noah says he needs more time.
Try: Change one direct statement into reported speech with says.
Use only the part you understand. Backshift, reported questions and reported commands belong to higher demands and are not a production goal of this G course.
Passive: understand it
You should be able to understand common passive forms in context.
The cable was checked.
Question: Is the sentence mainly about who checked or what happened to the cable?
Answer: It focuses on what happened to the cable.
G-level rule: Recognise and understand the passive. Do not force yourself to produce complex passive sentences.
Past perfect: understand earlier past
Maya had tried a new bulb before she came to the project.
The action had tried happened before the later past action came.
G-level rule: Understand this time relationship. Productive use is not the main goal here.
Not required here: past perfect progressive. It is not a G-level production target.
Mini flashcards
Cover the right side and answer aloud.
| Front | Back |
|---|---|
| Give an opinion. | I think … because … |
| Add an example. | For example, … |
| Show contrast. | However, … |
| Ask for information. | I would like to know … |
| Mediate, do not translate. | Pass on the important meaning. |
| Past perfect at G level. | Recognise earlier past. |
| Passive at G level. | Understand focus on action or result. |
| Reported speech at G level. | Use simple statements without backshift. |
Error analysis and direct feedback
After a task, do not correct everything at once. Use this order:
- Meaning: Is my message understandable?
- Task: Did I answer what was asked?
- Structure: Are ideas connected?
- Language: Choose one or two recurring errors.
- Retry: Improve only those points.
Example
First version: I think repair club good because save things.
Better version: I think the repair club is good because it saves useful things.
What changed? The message stayed the same, but the sentence now has a verb and clearer grammar.
Transfer challenge
Choose a new familiar topic, for example sports, music, school life, hobbies, transport or a local project.
One topic – four skills
- Listen to or watch a short English source and note the main idea.
- Read a short text and find three details.
- Speak for about 45–60 seconds and give your opinion with a reason.
- Write 80–120 words for a clear purpose.
Rule: Do not copy complete model texts. Reuse useful phrases, but make the content your own.
