Read the short comments from three fictional teenagers.
Maya, 13: “I like our town centre, but there are not many free places to meet. We should have a youth café near the library. It could be open after school.”
Leo, 12: “Cycling is difficult on some busy roads. I think we need safer cycle lanes because many students go to school by bike.”
Sam, 13: “Our park is nice, but there is not much to do. There should be a small sports area and more benches. Then young people could meet, talk and play.”
Notice the pattern: problem → idea → reason.
Example: The road is busy. → We should add a cycle lane → because cycling would be safer.

Functional grammar
Use should + base verb.

Use There should be + noun.

Use comparatives when useful:
safer – greener – quieter – easier to reach
Example: A new crossing could make the street safer.

Imagine the fictional town Riverton.
Riverton has a school, a small park, a library and a shopping street. The park closes early. The road near the school is busy. Buses come only twice an hour. There is no youth centre.
Choose two changes.
Your task: Give each change and a reason.
Example:
We should open the park longer because teenagers need a free place to meet.
There should be a safer crossing near the school so students can cross the road more easily.
Communicate: Speaking
Work with a partner or small group.
Student A suggests an idea.
Student B reacts and asks one question.
