E6 M - Present perfect questions and short answers
E6 M - Present perfect questions and short answers
Mini-Beschreibung: Ask simple questions with have/has and give matching short answers. Du sprichst über Erfahrungen. Try English first. Nutze Deutsch nur als Hilfe.

Media start: Have you ever ...?
Watch and listen for one simple pattern: Have you ever ...?
Your listening job: Put up one finger when you hear Have you ever ...? Say one short answer quietly: Yes, I have. or No, I haven't.

Safety: You do not need to share private experiences. You may invent an answer for practice. No recording or upload is needed.
I can ...
- I can ask: Have you ever ...?
- I can ask about one person with Has ... ever ...?
- I can answer: Yes, I have. / No, I haven't.
- I can answer: Yes, he/she has. / No, he/she hasn't.
- I can understand and use a few common past participles such as been, seen, eaten, ridden, made.
Before you start: quick check
Say the answers to yourself.
- Which helper goes with you: have or has?
- Which helper goes with she: have or has?
- Do you know one form from this set: been, seen, eaten, ridden, made?
Hint: You do not need every form yet.
Deutsch-Hilfe
Bei I, you, we, they brauchst Du have. Bei he, she, it brauchst Du has.
Notice: look and listen

Read the short dialogue. The people and experiences are fictional.
Mia: Have you ever ridden a horse?
Ben: No, I haven't. Have you ever ridden one?
Mia: Yes, I have.
Ben: Has Leo ever ridden a horse?
Mia: No, he hasn't.
Notice: The question starts with Have or Has. The short answer repeats have/has, not the full verb.
Understand: the useful pattern
| Person | Question | Positive short answer | Negative short answer |
|---|---|---|---|
| I / you / we / they | Have you ever seen a rainbow? | Yes, I have. | No, I haven't. |
| he / she / it | Has she ever seen a rainbow? | Yes, she has. | No, she hasn't. |
ever means: at any time in your life.
Question pattern: Have/Has + person + ever + past participle ...?
Useful forms in this course: be → been, see → seen, eat → eaten, ride → ridden, make → made, win → won, visit → visited, play → played.
Deutsch-Hilfe
Du fragst nach einer Erfahrung irgendwann bis jetzt. Für diesen Kurs brauchst Du keine systematische Gegenüberstellung mit dem simple past.
Picture input: questions need answers

Look at the two pictures. One stands for speaking, one for checking. In pair work, do both: ask clearly and check the short answer.
Vocabulary in context
Read this mini-story.
A school club has made experience cards. One card says ride a horse. Another says make pizza. A third says see the sea. Mia asks Ben, “Have you ever made pizza?” Ben says, “Yes, I have.” Then he asks, “Have you ever seen the sea?” Mia says, “No, I haven't.”
Useful chunks: ride a horse – make pizza – see the sea – visit a museum – win a game – sleep in a tent – eat sushi – play in a concert.
Pronunciation: make it easy to understand

Say these lines slowly, then naturally:
Have you ever RIDDEN a horse?
Has she ever MADE pizza?
Yes, I have.
No, she hasn't.
Focus: Stress the important experience word. Keep haven't and hasn't clear. Verständlichkeit ist wichtiger als Akzentfreiheit.
Recording yourself is optional. If you record, keep it private on your device and delete it when you no longer need it.
Practise: experience cards
Cut, copy or point to one card. Ask your partner. Then swap roles.
| Experience card | Your question |
|---|---|
| 🐴 ride a horse | Have you ever ridden a horse? |
| 🍕 make pizza | Have you ever made pizza? |
| 🌊 see the sea | Have you ever seen the sea? |
| ⛺ sleep in a tent | Have you ever slept in a tent? |
| 🏆 win a game | Have you ever won a game? |
| 🎵 play in a concert | Have you ever played in a concert? |
| 🏛 visit a museum | Have you ever visited a museum? |
| 🍣 eat sushi | Have you ever eaten sushi? |
Try English first: Ask one full question and give one short answer.
Hint: Start with Have you ever ...?
German help
Frage nach einer Erfahrung. Antworte kurz mit Yes, I have. oder No, I haven't.
Example: Have you ever made pizza? – Yes, I have.
Solution pattern
Have you ever + past participle ...? → Yes, I have. / No, I haven't.
Use: class survey
Ask up to five classmates. Questions are voluntary. Do not write names. Record only a total.
| Question | Yes | No |
|---|---|---|
| Have you ever ridden a horse? | ||
| Have you ever made pizza? | ||
| Have you ever slept in a tent? | ||
| Have you ever won a game? | ||
| Have you ever visited a museum? |
Useful classroom language:
Can I ask you a question?
Have you ever ...?
Yes, I have. / No, I haven't.
Thank you.
Privacy rule: No names, photos, voices or survey sheets need to be uploaded. Keep class data in class.
Read: a fictional survey
This survey is fictional.
| Experience | Yes | No |
|---|---|---|
| made pizza | 9 | 3 |
| ridden a horse | 4 | 8 |
| slept in a tent | 7 | 5 |
Read the data and complete the ideas orally.
Nine pupils have made pizza.
Four pupils have ridden a horse.
Seven pupils have slept in a tent.
Now ask one question that could produce one row of this table.
Hint
Start with Have you ever ...?
Solution example
Have you ever slept in a tent?
Listen again: short answers
This short lesson focuses directly on short answers.
Listen for these four forms: Yes, I have. – No, I haven't. – Yes, she has. – No, she hasn't.
Free OER video: classroom speaking idea
Datei:English Grammar — Present Perfect — Teaching Ideas — 2.webm
Use the idea, but keep your questions age-appropriate and non-private. You may always choose a fictional answer.
Speak: two-turn challenge
Partner A asks one experience question. Partner B gives a short answer and asks a new question.
A: Have you ever seen the sea?
B: Yes, I have. Have you ever slept in a tent?
A: No, I haven't.
Do three rounds. Then change one question to Has he/she ever ...? using a fictional person.
Write: mini report
Write 4–6 connected sentences about the fictional class survey.
Start like this:
Our class survey has five questions. Nine pupils have made pizza. Four pupils have ridden a horse. ...
Help ladder:
Try English first → use the table → check have/has → check the past participle → read your text aloud.
Deutsch-Hilfe
Schreibe einen kurzen Bericht mit den fiktiven Zahlen. Verbinde Sätze zum Beispiel mit and oder but.
Optional mediation
A German-speaking classmate asks what the task means. Explain it simply in German without translating every word.
Task: “Ask three classmates: Have you ever made pizza? Write only the number of yes-answers.”
Your job: Explain what to do, not every single English word.
Feedback: partner check

Check only these points:
- Does the question start with Have or Has?
- Is ever in the question?
- Is there a past participle?
- Does the short answer use have/has?
- Can you understand the speaker easily?
Give one helpful sentence: Good question. / Check have or has. / Say the main verb more clearly.
Use again: 30-second round
Choose three new experience cards. Ask and answer without reading the full model.
Goal: clear communication first, selected accuracy second.
Can-do check
| I can ... | Yes | Almost | Practise again |
|---|---|---|---|
| ask Have you ever ...? | □ | □ | □ |
| ask Has he/she ever ...? | □ | □ | □ |
| give Yes/No short answers | □ | □ | □ |
