In this aiMOOC, you learn to say what you think and why. You also learn to react to another opinion in a friendly way.
Learning path: Notice → understand → practise → use → feedback → use again.
Language rule: Try English first. Then use a hint. Open the short German help only if you still need it.

Try English first: “I think … because …”
Hint: Use one idea + one reason.
German help: opinion = Meinung; reason = Grund; agree = zustimmen; disagree = nicht zustimmen
Example: I think homework is useful because I can practise.

Remember: A reason answers the question Why?

Understand: Listen and read
Watch a short part of the video. Listen for I agree, I disagree and a reason. You do not need to understand every word.
Listening mission:
- Which person likes the city?
- Which person has a different opinion?
- Can you hear a reason?
German help: Höre gezielt nach Meinung, Zustimmung/Ablehnung und einem Grund. Nicht jedes Wort ist wichtig.
Short dialogue
Mia: I think school clubs are great because we can meet friends.
Ben: I agree. Clubs are fun, and we can learn new things.
Sara: I’m not sure. I don’t like clubs because I need time for homework.
Mia: That’s true, but one club can be a good idea. What do you think, Ben?
Ben: I think so too.
Check: Who agrees with Mia? Who gives a different opinion? What reasons can you find?
Hint: Underline “because”. Circle “I agree” and “I’m not sure”.
German help: Ben stimmt Mia zu. Sara ist nicht sicher und nennt Hausaufgaben als Grund.
Practise
Build a good answer
A useful answer has two parts:
Opinion + reason
I think our class should have a reading corner because reading is relaxing.
Now change one part:
- I think our class should have more games because ______.
- In my opinion, school lunch is ______ because ______.
- I don’t agree because ______.
Help ladder
Try English first: Make one complete sentence.
Hint: Start with “I think …” and add “because …”.
German help: Sage zuerst Deine Meinung. Nenne danach mit “because” einen Grund.
Example: I think class trips are important because we learn together.
Possible solution: I think break time should be longer because we need time to relax.
Pronunciation: Make the reason clear
Speak in short chunks:
I THINK school clubs are GREAT | because they are FUN.
Stress the important words. Do not worry about sounding British or American. Your goal is to be easy to understand.
Practice:
- Say the sentence slowly.
- Say it again at normal speed.
- Change “school clubs” and “fun”.
- Ask a partner: “What do you think?”
Recording is optional. If you record yourself, keep the recording private unless you choose to share it.

Speaking: Opinion line
Choose one statement:
- Homework is useful.
- School should start later.
- Bikes are better than cars for short trips.
- Video games can be a good hobby.
Say two sentences:
I think ... because ...
I agree / I don’t agree because ...
Then ask: What do you think?
Reading: Our class activity
Class 6B wants one activity for Friday. The names and data are fictional.
Leo: I think we should play a team game because everybody can join.
Nora: I agree with Leo because games are fun. But I also like a short quiz.
Sam: I don’t agree. I think we should watch a short film because we can relax after a busy week.
Aylin: I’m not sure. In my opinion, a quiz is better because we can work in small teams.
Reading check:

Short writing output
Write 4–5 sentences about one school topic.
Use:
- one opinion phrase,
- one reason with because,
- one agreement or polite disagreement,
- one question to another person.
Starter: In my opinion, ... because ... I agree / I don’t agree with ... because ... What do you think?
German help: Schreibe kurz und klar. Du brauchst keine schwierigen Wörter. Ein verständlicher Grund reicht.
Optional mediation
Your German-speaking partner says: “Ich finde einen Klassenausflug gut, weil wir gemeinsam etwas erleben.”
Tell an English-speaking classmate the main idea in simple English. Do not translate every word.
Possible answer: My partner thinks a class trip is good because we can do something together.
Feedback and use again
Check your answer.
- Did I give an opinion?
- Did I give a reason?
- Did I use because correctly?
- Was my agreement or disagreement friendly?
- Could another person understand me?
Then improve one sentence and say or write it again.
AI check: If you use an AI tool, check the result and write the final sentence in your own words. Do not enter private data or upload recordings unless you have chosen and are allowed to do so.
