Coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) are used to precisely measure the dimensions of complex automotive and other product parts. Tight temperature control in the NIST Advanced Measurement Laboratory will allow NIST to improve the accuracy of its CMM calibration services and to conduct research into the complex effects of changing temperatures on CMM performance.
