E7 G - I can speak – English 7

Mini description: You can talk about your experiences, plans, opinions, free time and familiar problems. You use short conversations and small connected talks.

Your language mode: English first → try → context/media → hint → German help if needed. Short sentences, useful chunks, clear models and lots of speaking practice.

Course level: English as a first foreign language, Grade 7, Baden-Württemberg, G-Niveau.

Einleitung

In this aiMOOC, you learn to speak so people can understand you. You do not need a perfect accent. Your message is more important.

You work in a simple cycle: notice → understand → try → use → communicate → feedback → improve → use again.

The people in examples are fictional. You do not need private social-media data. Audio or video recordings are voluntary and should stay private unless you clearly choose otherwise. Do not upload personal recordings to external AI tools without permission.

First try: Watch a short part without subtitles. What is the topic? Which hobbies or likes do you notice? Do not stop for every new word.

I-can-Ziele

  1. Free time: I can say what I like and do not like.
  2. Experiences: I can talk about a simple past experience.
  3. Plans: I can say what I am going to do.
  4. Opinions: I can give a simple opinion and one reason.
  5. Conversation: I can ask a question, react and keep a short conversation going.
  6. Familiar problems: I can describe a simple problem and suggest an idea.

Vorwissen

Try first. Say these chunks aloud:

Situation Useful chunk
Free time I like ... / I don't really like ...
Past experience Last weekend, I ...
Plan I'm going to ...
Opinion I think ... because ...
Ask back What about you?
Problem The problem is ...
Suggestion We could ...

Hint: If you get stuck, use a short repair phrase: Sorry, can you say that again? or What does ... mean?

Deutsch nur bei Bedarf: Du darfst erst nach einem eigenen Versuch gezielt Hilfe nutzen. Übersetze nicht automatisch alles.

Listening and Viewing: Making plans

Before watching: Look at the title. What words may appear? Think of three: birthday, Saturday, meet, time, place ...

First watch – gist only: Who is making plans? What is the main idea?

Second watch – listen for chunks: Tick in your head when you hear language for a suggestion, agreement or time.

After watching: Say one plan with a partner: A: Are you free on Saturday? B: Yes. What shall we do? A: We could ... B: Sounds good.

Hint 1: Listen for stressed words, not every word.

Hint 2: Useful chunks: How about ...? / We could ... / Sounds good.

German help if needed: Konzentriere Dich auf Wer? Was? Wann? Du musst nicht jedes Wort verstehen.

Reading: A short profile

Meet Sam. Sam is 13. Sam likes cycling and drawing. Last Saturday, Sam went to a small skate park with two friends. It was fun, but the weather was cold. This weekend, Sam is going to visit a cousin. Sam thinks weekends are better with friends because you can do things together.

Try: Find one sentence about free time, one about the past, one about a plan and one opinion.

Mini-transfer: Change three facts and make Sam a new fictional person. Do not use private information about a real person.

Say these rhythm groups slowly, then at normal speed:

Chunk Focus
I LIKE CYcling. Stress important words.
LAST WEEKend, I VISited my COUsin. Keep the key words clear.
I'm GOing to MEET my FRIENDS. Do not stress every word.
I THINK it's GOOD because it's FUN. Pause before the reason if needed.

Try again: Say the same sentence once slowly and once naturally.

Speaking 1: Free time

Model: A: What do you like doing after school? B: I like cycling. It's fun. What about you? A: I like gaming, but I also play basketball.

Your turn: Speak for about 30 seconds. Use three connected sentences.

Writing frame for speaking: In my free time, I ... . I also ... . I like it because ... .

Challenge: Ask one follow-up question.

Speaking 2: Experiences

Model: Last weekend, I went to the park with my friend. We played basketball. It was good because the weather was nice.

Your turn: Speak for about 30–40 seconds about one simple past experience.

Sentence starters: Last weekend ... / First ... / Then ... / It was ... because ...

Hint: Use the simple past for a finished past event. You do not need a long story.

Speaking 3: Plans

Notice: You can often use be going to for plans.

Model: I'm going to meet my friend on Saturday. We're going to play basketball.

Try: Make two weekend plans.

Partner task: A: What are you going to do on Sunday? B: I'm going to ... A: Sounds good. What time?

Hint: Keep the plan simple: person + going to + activity + time.

Speaking 4: Opinions

First watch: Listen for ways to give an opinion.

Model: I think school clubs are useful because you can meet people.

Partner exchange: A: What do you think about school trips? B: I think they are good because they are interesting. What about you? A: I agree. / I don't really agree.

Feedback: Did both speakers give a reason?

Speaking 5: Familiar problems

Situation: Your friend wants to meet you, but your bike is broken.

Try first: A: The problem is my bike is broken. B: We could take the bus. A: Good idea.

Other safe situations: You are late. You cannot find a book. You are tired before training. You forgot an item for school.

Useful chunks: The problem is ... / Maybe we could ... / You could ... / Good idea. / I'm not sure.

Writing: A short message

Write 40–60 words to a fictional friend. Make a plan.

Writing frame: Hi ... Are you free on ...? I'm going to ... We could ... What do you think? See you!

Check: Is the time clear? Is the activity clear? Did you ask a question?

Mediation: Help with the message

Your German-speaking friend says: „Ich kann am Samstag erst nach 15 Uhr. Frag bitte, ob wir uns am Sportplatz treffen können.“

Do not translate every word. Pass on the meaning in simple English.

Try: I'm free after ... . Can we meet ...?

Hint: Keep only the important information.
