E5 E - Fit for English 6

Mini-Beschreibung: Sichere die tragenden Englisch-5-Kompetenzen aus listening, reading, speaking, writing, mediation, vocabulary, pronunciation und grammar und bereite Dich behutsam auf Klasse 6 vor. Dieser aiMOOC ist für Klasse 5, E-Niveau, Englisch als erste Fremdsprache in Baden-Württemberg gedacht.

Your learning loop: see → listen → understand → repeat → use → feedback → use again.

Look. What can you see? Say three easy words.

Listen. Hear the word classroom and repeat it.

Say: This is my classroom. I learn English here.

So arbeitest Du

Use as much English as you can. Deutsche Hilfe ist da, wenn Du sie brauchst.

  1. See: Look at a picture, word or short text.
  2. Listen: Listen once for the main idea. Listen again for details.
  3. Understand: Find key words and important information.
  4. Repeat: Say useful chunks aloud.
  5. Use: Make your own short sentence, dialogue or text.
  6. Feedback: Check meaning, word order and pronunciation.
  7. Use again: Improve one sentence and try again.

Important: Verständlichkeit ist wichtiger als Akzentfreiheit. Eigene Audioaufnahmen sind freiwillig und bleiben privat. Lade keine persönlichen Aufnahmen ungefragt hoch. Nutze externe KI-Werkzeuge nur, wenn dies erlaubt und sinnvoll ist. Prüfe KI-Hilfen und behalte Deine eigene Sprachproduktion.

Deine Lernziele

After this course, you can ...

  1. understand the main idea in short classroom and everyday listening texts.
  2. read short connected texts and find important information.
  3. take part in simple dialogues and give a short presentation.
  4. write a short connected text with clear basic sentences.
  5. explain simple information from English in German or from German in simple English.
  6. use important vocabulary, pronunciation patterns and basic grammar more safely.

New words and chunks

Keep the list small. Use the words again and again.

English Hilfe Example
usually meistens I usually get up at seven.
sometimes manchmal I sometimes play basketball.
because weil I like English because it is fun.
first zuerst First, I have breakfast.
then dann Then, I go to school.
Can you ...? Kannst du ...? Can you swim?
I think ... Ich denke ... I think the story is funny.
Could you repeat that, please? Bitte wiederholen. Could you repeat that, please?

Vorwissen-Check

Try without help first.

  1. Say your name, age and one thing you like.
  2. Say three things you do on a normal school day.
  3. Ask a partner two questions.
  4. Read: Sam lives near a park. Sam usually walks to school with a friend. After school, they often play table tennis. What does Sam do after school?
  5. Write three connected sentences about yourself.

Mini-feedback: If this is easy, add because, and, but, then or sometimes. If it is difficult, use the chunks in this course and try again later.

Listening and speaking

Meet and talk

Watch a short beginner dialogue. Listen first. Do not stop at every word.

First listening: Who is speaking? What is the situation?

Second listening: Listen for names and greetings.

Repeat:

  1. Hello. What's your name?
  2. My name's ...
  3. Nice to meet you.
  4. How are you?
  5. I'm fine, thanks.

Use it:

A: Hello. What's your name? B: My name's Jamie. What's your name? A: I'm Alex. Nice to meet you. B: Nice to meet you too.

Now change the names. Then add one question: Where are you from? or What do you like?

Daily routines

Look at the picture. What may happen before school, at school and after school?

Now listen.

Listen again and clap when you hear a daily activity.

Useful chunks:

  1. I get up at ...
  2. I have breakfast.
  3. I go to school.
  4. I have lunch.
  5. After school, I ...
  6. In the evening, I ...
  7. I go to bed at ...

Your turn: Say four connected sentences about your day. Use first, then or after school.

Example: I get up at seven. Then I have breakfast. I go to school at eight. After school, I play football.

Can you ...?

Listen for can and can't.

A: Can you swim? B: Yes, I can. A: Can you play the guitar? B: No, I can't. But I can sing.

Speak: Ask three Can you ...? questions. Give full short answers.

Feedback: After can use the base form: can swim, can sing, can play. Not: can swims.

Time and routines

Listen for times. You do not need every word.

Say:

  1. It's seven o'clock.
  2. It's half past seven.
  3. I get up at seven.
  4. School starts at eight.

Mini-output: Say two times from your day.

Pronunciation

Hear, repeat, compare

The goal is clear speech.

Listen to the English alphabet.

Listen to two classroom words.

Repeat slowly, then normally.

Try these contrasts:

  1. three – tree
  2. this – dis
  3. school – cool
  4. can – can't

You do not need a perfect accent. Make the important sounds clear and use a natural sentence rhythm.

Sentence practice: Can you help me, please?

Say it once slowly. Then say it again as one chunk.

Reading

Read for the main idea

Read the short text.

A school day

Hi, I'm Maya. I'm eleven and I live with my family in a small town. On school days, I usually get up at seven. I have breakfast and walk to school with my friend Noor. My favourite subjects are English and art because I like stories and drawing. At lunch time, I often talk to my friends. After school, I sometimes play basketball. In the evening, I do my homework and read. I usually go to bed at half past nine.

First read: What is the text mainly about?

Second read: Find:

  1. Maya's age
  2. two school subjects
  3. one after-school activity
  4. her bedtime

Think: Which sentence tells you why Maya likes English and art?

Reading tip: Do not translate every word. Look for names, times, repeated words and connectors such as and, but, because, then.

Read and respond

Answer in short English sentences.

  1. What time does Maya get up?
  2. Who walks to school with Maya?
  3. Why does Maya like English and art?
  4. What does Maya sometimes do after school?
  5. Is your day similar or different?

Feedback: For information about another person, watch the verb: Maya likes, Maya plays, Maya goes.

Writing

From sentence to short text

Build a small text in three steps.

Step 1 – ideas: name – age – school – favourite subject – hobby – one routine

Step 2 – chunks:

  1. My name is ...
  2. I'm ... years old.
  3. My favourite subject is ... because ...
  4. After school, I ...
  5. I usually ...
  6. Sometimes, I ...

Step 3 – connect:

My name is Robin and I'm eleven years old. My favourite subject is English because I like short stories. After school, I often ride my bike. I usually do my homework before dinner, but sometimes I read first.

Now write five to seven connected sentences about a fictional profile or about yourself.

Check:

  1. Does every sentence start with a capital letter?
  2. Does every sentence end clearly?
  3. Did you use at least two connectors?
  4. Did you check he/she/it + s where needed?
  5. Can another person understand your text easily?

Mediation

Help someone understand

Mediation is not word-for-word translation. Give the important information.

Situation: A German-speaking classmate does not understand this message:

Hi everyone! Our English Club meets on Thursday at 3:15 in room 12. Bring a pen and your notebook. We are making a mini-poster about our favourite hobbies. You do not need to bring food.

Explain the important information in German.

Possible key points: Donnerstag, 15:15 Uhr, Raum 12, Stift und Heft mitbringen, Mini-Poster über Hobbys, kein Essen nötig.

Now go the other way.

Situation: Your English-speaking exchange partner asks what this means:

Treffpunkt ist um 8 Uhr vor der Schule. Bitte bring eine Trinkflasche mit.

Say in simple English:

We meet at eight in front of the school. Please bring a water bottle.

Feedback: Keep the meaning. Short and clear is good.

Vocabulary

Build useful word groups

Do not learn long random lists. Learn words in useful groups and chunks.

Topic Useful words and chunks
school classroom, subject, homework, break, timetable, teacher
routines get up, have breakfast, go to school, come home, go to bed
free time play, read, meet friends, ride a bike, listen to music
feelings happy, tired, excited, worried, hungry
talking I think ..., I like ..., I don't like ..., Can you ...?, What about you?

Use it: Pick one word from three different rows and make a short connected text.

Grammar in communication

Present simple: routines and facts

Use the present simple for routines, habits and facts.

I play basketball on Mondays. We live near the school. She likes music. He goes to school by bus.

Remember: he / she / it often gets -s.

Ask: Do you play basketball? Does she like music?

Answer: Yes, I do. No, she doesn't.

Present progressive: happening now

Use the present progressive for something happening now.

I am reading. You are listening. They are playing.

Compare:

I play football on Fridays. = routine I am playing football now. = happening now

Mini-dialogue:

A: What are you doing? B: I'm reading. What about you? A: I'm doing my homework.

Have got and be

Use familiar structures safely.

I have got a brother. She has got a new bike. We haven't got a test today.

I am tired. They are at school. Is he your friend?

Use these forms in real messages about people, possessions and situations.

Questions

Useful question starters:

  1. What ...?
  2. Where ...?
  3. When ...?
  4. Who ...?
  5. How ...?
  6. Why ...?

Example:

A: What do you do after school? B: I usually meet my friends.

A: Why do you like English? B: Because I like speaking and stories.

A small look ahead to class 6

You do not need to learn new class-6 grammar here. Just notice that English can also talk about the past and the future.

Past – only a preview: Yesterday, I played football.

Future – only a preview: Tomorrow, I'm going to visit my cousin.

For now, focus on the strong basics: present simple, present progressive, can, have got, be, questions, word order and useful vocabulary.

Mini-Wiederholung

Say or write one example for each point:

  1. one routine with usually
  2. one activity happening now
  3. one sentence with can
  4. one question
  5. one sentence with because
  6. one short mediation sentence

Then choose one sentence and improve it.

Example:

First try: I play football. Better: I usually play football after school because it is fun.

I-can-Check
