English: Spring dust storms continued to create hazardous conditions over the Arabian Peninsula in early April, 2015. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA's Aqua satellite captured this true-color image on April 5 as it passed over the region. Strong northwesterly winds lifted dust and carried it hundreds of kilometers across Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Oman, and both the Red Sea (west) and Persian Gulf, in the east. The sand also reached eastern Africa, beyond the Red Sea, and India in the east. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that dust particles travelled with westerly winds across the Arabian Sea and affected parts of Maharashtra and Gujarat, resulting in a marked drop in visibility along with increased risk to those with respiratory ailments.
