English: A complete cast copper alloy socketed axehead of Bronze Age date.

The axehead is wedge shaped with a wide sub-circular socket. The mouth has a flattened upper mouth moulding. The moulding is unusually crude. There is then a wide undecorated band, followed by the second much smaller lower mouth moulding. Internally the socket tapers and narrows to a rectangular shape close to the cutting edge. It then expands into the blade. The cutting edge is well rounded, but has become chipped and corroded. There are a few linear markings (striations) on the blade, but it does not appear to have been sharpened or hammered.
A D-shaped sectioned attachment loop is present to one side of the axehead just below the lower mouth moulding. It is rather crude and slightly damaged. The casting flash can be seen running down the loop. It is 17.3mm long and 10.9mm wide.
On the corners (between the sides and the faces) there are recessed body angles, these extend from the lower mouth moulding and taper towards the outer corners of the cutting edge. This pattern is repeated on all four 'corners'.
The cutting edge has a pronounce flare out toward each of the blade tips and is itself quite worn and pitted.
Casting flashes are present on both sides of the axehead, they run from below the upper mouth moulding to the blade tips. The flashing looks like it has been worked. The blade tips measure 53.1mm tip to tip.
The metal has a mid reddish-brown patina and survives in good condition. Parts of the surface remain very smooth and fine, but some corrosion has occurred. The axehead is 106.8mm long, the mouth has an external diameter of 36.7mm x 34.6mm, an internal diameter of 23.4mm x 25.7mm. The axehead weighs 179g.
